I’ll be comfortably clearing a dungeon and then the butcher shows up and he’s just a complete roadblock. His barrier plus life regen almost completely negates all my damage done. It would take me 30 min to kill him. Every time I run into him I just run towards the entrance until he despawns. It’s a complete waste of time. If I’m geared enough to easily clear the dungeon, then the butcher shouldn’t be an unrealistic kill.
This was a problem even during the Beta. One of the Core Reasons I won’t do Hardcore Mode. Dungeons are too much of a risk with the Butcher randomly appearing. It’s just not worth the risk of losing a character due to a badly thought out game mechanic.
Even now, despite being relatively equipped, if he spawns, I just let him kill me quickly and get back into the grind. Not worth the amount of time it takes to try to kill him.
Nothing more annoying than being on your last respawn in a dungeon and hearing “fresh meat”
Certain affixes like drifting shade make it almost impossible to kite him around the environment too
There are vast differences in builds able to clear dungeons no problem but lacking in either defense or single target damage.
The problem is not in the Butchter, but in the difference of power available at different points of the game, where you can happen to be at a sweet spot or down in power.
My preseason druid (lightning storm) could run any level of dungeon because of the crazy overlap damage of the build, but no way I could destroy a single blood cell of Echo of Lilith reliable (only if Lilith was next to it), tanking forever looking at a Butcher that was tanking me forever.
My preseason rogue (penetrating shot, poison imbue, frost) had no problem of butchering with huge amounts of survivability (reasonably nerfed imho), while at the same time having the same damage no matter the situaion, Butcher is dead.
And my current season 1 necro (blood overpower) is taking the extra loot of the strange monster in between the others.
He also drops garbage. You’d think killing the butcher would be more valuable than killing a treasure goblin or opening a resplendent chest.
Other than his cleaver there’s nothing. No title, no challenge, no trophy, nothing.
Weird
Buddy of mine and i killed him in a 69 last night. Was a bit tedious, but he went down.
As far as drops are concerned, he does drop garbage. BUT there IS super rare mount armor supposedly….never seen it though.
I stopped doing dungeons with drifting shade, lightning dome and stormbanes wrath back in the preseason and will not engage with what I feel are lazy gotcha mechanics. The dungeons get so cluttered with dead bodies, full screen effects, enemy after death effects, extra mobs and other miscellaneous explosions that I have to way to tell when any of those mechanics are coming.
I had to stop doing death pulse for the same reason and that effect is now magnified with the increased monster density.
If people stopped engaging with these poorly thought out designs they would end up like cold enchanted, backstabber and resource burn and be disabled or removed from the game which is honestly where they belong.
I disagree. I am not a damage dealer, and none of my crowd control affects work on him.
Yet even I am able to beat him in about 2 minutes 3 minutes maybe.
And I play on world tier 4 and have been doing so since around 60 I think.
Not to sound like a jerk but I think you need to get better skills.
Granted there are certain places where he could be such a pain. But generally I find a spot where I can be defensive and that works out just fine.
Only metric i ever deal with is avenger. If i see any if the ones you mention, they get salvaged. I never do them.
It’s most likely not even their skills. but paragon placement including glyphs(presuming they are a higher level) Now if they aint past 50 yet, yeah butcher can prolly be an issue. I do agree his bloody barrier needs a nerf for spell casters. for some reason when i fought him, it felt like spells did less damage than melee attacks to shield.
He’s really more of a worthless break check - if you can down him reasonably fast then content +10 your level should be easy enough. If you don’t die but he’s not going down either your durable enough for +10 but not doing enough damage output. If he trashes you then your builds not ready for +10 reliably.
My biggest issue is he’s not worth killing, drops junk.
These are some of my later butcher encounters. He’s not too bad with the right toolkit. I’m built to explode mobs, not do big single target damage, but I’m also built for super high mobility to stay alive in between those burst windows.
Flurry Rogue Butcher Encounters.
First run he is +9 levels over me, second run he is +13 and the final run is from the newest patch and +14 levels over my own.
death with butcher should not kill hardcore or take away a dungeon revive, he should drop better loot, and he should not have multiple barriers.
Why do you believe that getting killed by the butcher in HC should not be counted?
If you don’t want to have one life while playing, roll an eternal or seasonal. Like me. I believe that rolling an HC character is insane, especially with the lag, bugs and disconnects. The entire point of HC is to have one chance. That’s it.
Shouldnt matter which mobs people fight.
My main issue is he never drops anything good. If he’s supposed to be this RNG troll experience, at least give me something. I’ve seen Butcher way more since the update and it’s annoying because I can beat him every time, but it’s just a waste because he always drops trash for me.
There are some deaths that are just dumb and this is honestly not much better than lag death.
Don’t play HC on an online only game. You’ll just get rekt and that’s just how it will be unless they make an offline mode. This game is too laggy for us to have payed full price for the game AND they have a cash shop. I feel like I’m playing an old-school mmo where you usually float around 100-200ms ping. Even when it says I have 60ms the enemies are still skipping around me. Makes no sense. Not always but it happens more than it should.
Why is it dumb? The butcher is a mob just like any other mob. Yes his appearance is intermittent, but still. As others have said (chef i believe), if you die from the butcher, you are doing content above your level that you shouldnt be, your build is jacked, OR your paragon points need to be adjusted……i will add to that maybe the skill level of the player is not matching the level they are attempting to play at (could also be too high level but i am talking skill level of the player).
Should i ask for the deaths not to count if lillith kills me at lvl 60? Or how about a trash mob?
The game is designed a certain way, just because you don’t like something does not make it “dumb”…lag deaths not withstanding.
Well… I dont think this is the right way to go about it… I think honestly they should give a warning that he’s there. Look at diablo 3’s nemesis. You got a warning he was coming, so he didnt just pop up out of no where and annihilate you.
The “Fresh meat” when you’re pretty much right on his tail… is not enough. This guy can 1 shot people for sure. Especially if you already have several packs on you, and possibly a maligment too in this season. I know for me and iron, they spawned butcher right beside an elite pack we were dealing with that was level 109 i think. (just like the next room) He came charging out, Not cool.
They need to do the same with goblins, they need to up the audible noises, so you know they are around, not just them appearing on the map.
So just more of an advance warning would be nice.
You can also hear him walking around and chains clanging before he yells “fresh meat!l
Not a dedicated warning, but i get ehat youre sayin.
