Burning (DoT) skills - bug

I created sorc and took all fire dmg skills… but fire damage over time from gear does not affect my skills. And I saw that new upcomming patch 1.1.1 boosts burning dmg… but also now with patch 1.1.1 is my dmg still same, because combustion +%burning dmg does not affect my fire DoT too… how I can create sorc with burning (DoT) dmg, when passives and gear does not affect it???

Are you using the Firebolt enchantment? That’s the only surefire way to get the fire DoT on some fire skills like Fireball and even non-fire skills.

Otherwise you need to make sure you’re using skills that specifically apply the Burning DoT effect and those would be Firebolt and Hydras with the Summoned Hydra upgrade.

Incinerate, Meteor, and Firewall also do Burn damage but don’t apply a direct DoT, instead applying burning while being channeled for Incinerate or leaving a burning zone on the ground for Meteor and Firewall.

Strangely Fireball doesn’t actually do burning damage, it just uses burning damage to boost its own.

I think they should change fire to be burning by default as one of its properties

Enchantments: Firebolt, Fireball
Skills: Flame shield (DoT around You), Hydra (burns for 12% dmg), Inferno (burning dmg), Incinerate burning dmg + DoT, etc.

Dmg from “Fire dmg over time” from gear and +%burning dmg from Combustion and other passives (elemental dominance for Incinerate) does not increase dmg for any skills… also tested in combat.

Okay, so when you cast or channel a spell the game takes a snapshot of both your and your target’s stats and status effects and applies them to the spell you casted. If the enemy was not burning when you cast or channel your spell it won’t give you the increases.

Now, the fun part! All that burning damage is applied per tick and after applied it drops off instantly so it can be applied on the NEXT tick. So, catching one of those burning ticks in a snapshot is tricky at best and catching all of them is laughably hard.

The only real way to ensure yoy get all of your damage to burning increases is to apply actual burning over time from fire bolt, it’s enchantment, the hydra burn upgrade or the burn upgrade on firewall that only applies when they leave it.

They reworked Combustion key passive,… "Your burning effects deal 20% increased damage +2% per unique source…

But main 20% doesn’t work.

Same for: Elemental dominance: Core + mastery skills 9% dmg if above 50 mana… and dmg is still same…

For that, they may have just screwed up the coding… OR it only applies to the burns I was talking about with fire bolt and such. The ones that apply a dark red section over the mob health bar for like 3 seconds. Personally, I think that would be more likely. So things like fire wall and incinerate aren’t getting boosted, just the DoTs that last longer than a single tick.

I don’t know why fire skills are complicated. All I want is just cast fire and burn whether it’s Meteor, Incinerate, Fireball etc.

I don’t wanna deal whether it’s Fire damage or Burning damage or a spell that’s orangey with cool effects that looks like fire and burning but it’s not

Really what needs to happen is they need to convert all the spells that do “Burning” damage to actually just apply DoTs instead of being somewhere in-between DoT and Direct Damage.
