Builds and youtubers

When did stuff like this start happening. You look up a build to see if theres something you missed.

And you see nothing but builds like

(Insert youtubers name) (insert name of the build)

They arent even making up the builds they are just copying other people builds and throwing their names on it to get people to go to their youtube channel or stream.

You can tell thats all there doing because theres not different in the builds.

Started with D3 been around for awhile now.

Pretty much with Diablo 2 and World of Warcraft. There became “cookie cutter” builds. Essentially they are min/maxed skill point and attribute point paths that maximize the amount of effectiveness your character can have.

However, you don’t have to follow them. I started my builds on my rogue and druid without looking them up. Then after figuring out what kind of character I wanted to play, I looked up ideas that others had. On my rogue, I even changed the build to be a bit more tanky and opportunistic. I’ll do the same on my druid.

What I’m trying to say is, play the game how you want to. If that means you don’t want to cookie cutter your character, don’t. Play on WT1 or WT2 if it’s fun to you. Don’t let others tell you how to play the game you purchased.

Edit: Builds were around well before D3 was here, that’s for sure  I remember getting reemed by my GM in WoW during BC because I “wasted” 5 skill points.
