So i started with necro, and beat the story with it. Currently parked at 47. Cant do the capstone, too difficult. Minion build, 70% increase in minion health, +2 mages. reaper/frost/bone golem.
And ive made 1 of every other class.
Barb: whirlwind seems like the only option, and i can get about 5 rotations before im out of fury, with shouts and berzerk. dislike the idea that i cant hide dual weapons and hammer, i just want 2h sword on his back for fs. Like the tankiness. Dislike being in melee.
Sorc: played ice shards/frost nova, chain lightning/lightning whip. Both are almost always mana starved or cooldown reliant. Neither are really boss killers, so that takes forever. Like the range play, dislike the resource usage. Prefer frost over lightning.
Druid: Cant stand the fat character. like the idea of lightning storms and ravens, dislike that its channeled.
Rogue: would love a viable bow rogue, not sure i can find one that isnt squishy, has decent aoe, and strong single. Played a dagger rogue to 27, not bad, didnt do twisting, was more in your face melee shadowstep thingy. dislike melee, like ranged.
SO TLDR: I like ranged, would like strong single, decent aoe, and survivability, and not a fat character. What builds are open to me?
If you dislike the resource usage of Sorc, I have some bad news for you about Necro… it’s 10 times worse than Sorc at higher tier when it comes to resources, because Sorc actually has access to some decent mana regen stuff.
Right now the only A tier build (There’s no S tier Necro build, Necro cannot be S tier due to the lack of Unstopabble, CC breaks, defensive, and movement abilities) is the bone spear crit + vulnerability build.
Anything else is B tier at most, unplayable at worst.
Minions won’t get you far due to high tier Nightmare Dungeons stacking elite enchantments that renders minions 100% useless and dead.
Blood build takes too much setup for overpower to be able to do anything at a decent pace without dying.
Shadow exists I guess? It’s bad because you can’t see anything due to the visuals so not worth playing.
Only 1 real build with a few variations on it. Basically sacrifice all your summons, stack lots of crit/crit dmg, use Bone Spear(more popular) or Bone Spirit, corpse tendrils, and Bone prison. Use Bone spear once to generate a corpse, corpse tendrils to pull everything into one spot, Bone Prison to keep it contained, then bone spear spam to kill it all.
Minions simply die way too fast and once they start dying you can’t generate corpses fast enough or spam revive quick enough to keep them up. It’s a vicious cycle. Without them up your damage is awful and you’re giving up 2 ability slots that will be useless.
Pretty much what the first two said. Necromancer needs a lot of work. I’m 73 Bonespear and melt but when I play with friends I can’t keep up. Setup time is rough in a group, rely on boots for movement entirely. Minions can push into higher levels, but all the damage will come from Shadow damage and not the actual minions. They are also hard to keep standing.
Once I finish renown on my Necro I’ll be parking my Necro until the first major balance pass that hopefully puts Necro in a better spot, but my hopes aren’t high. Not sure how minions could really ever perform on the level of WW Barb, IS Sorc, BS Necro, etc.
Granted still having a blast but sad to see Necro in an awkward and rough position.
