[BUG] Upgrading Items reducing Stats

I upgraded a ring. It started with max crit roll of 3%. I upgraded it to 6 with no issue. Then the game indicated it would be decreased to 2.7% if I upgraded.

I upgraded anyway to test if it was a visual bug, and it was not. It actually reduced my crit chance on the item. Please fix!

Can confirm I experienced the same issue. Upgrading necklace from 1/4 to 2/4 projected CC Duration range changed from 1.6-4.4% to 2.4-6.0% but the stat value lowered from 3.3% to the bottom of the new range at 2.4% which shouldn’t happen.

Same issue. At 4/5 my legs were +20 all stats; at 5/5 my legs are +17 all stats. I also performed the upgrade just to see and it did indeed reduce the stats. I have a screenshot but can’t share it for whatever reason

Can confirm this. The item example below is going to cross into the 625 tier threshold, but it is losing stats

Same issue. Max Upgrade above 625 Item Power would cause to decrease my Total Armor and Crowd Control Duration - Sadeg

I also had this problem on a ring. 607+15 Item Power. Upgrading from level 3 to level 4 would reduce the Maximum Health it gives me

Same issue on a lvl61 Sacred Unique Ghors Devastating Grips, perhaps THE best unique for Whirlwind Barb. Imagine my dismay when i rolled nearly max ranges on drop only to have it perhaps rerolled when upgrading from upgrade 3->4 and having 2 of 4 values stay same and 1 go down and only 1 go up to where now I am near minimum values in all range if i upgrade. No one wants an item with amazing drop rolls to be nerfed during the UPGRADE. Once people hit lvl 100 having this type of thing happen will cause so much hate. First, I recommend items never lose stats during an upgrade. Second, knowing how itemization has historically worked going way back, having a 1 in a million type of item drop then get borked during an upgrade is a design decision you should consider very carefully. What I am seeing currently is initial item drop rolls don’t matter, and only the rolls after you are deep into spending rare resources on upgrades matter. Consider you have a game where people keep items with good rolls and drop items with bad rolls, and see if this mechanic won’t generate a whole lot of hate.

Same problem here Crit chance suddenly got lower for 5/5 item upgrade instead of increasing the crit chance on my gloves from 8% to 10+ is would be decreased to 6%

same issue, made a separate post… it was with legs with the life regeneration stat, and I went from max roll on the regen range on the legs, to bottom of the roll range at upgrade 3 of 4.

Ruined my pants I waited 20 levels for haha. gg.

this is absolutely bonkers. how can you have an upgrade system that lowers your stats… i had the same happen with a helmet with CDR on it.

either implement a downgrade option or fix this…

There is a thing called break points. When you upgrade an item at 625 through 725 item level it takes the stats and rerolls them. The values are higher but you can roll the minimal number. Which is what happen to Demalii regen on his pants. He got the max roll of 37 but when he upgraded the max went up and the stats rerolled on the low end.

This is intentional it seems.

But I am hacing an tool tip issue with my aspect on my legendary rolling lower then the minimal… check it out

I think Bazuri is right, my Item was 614 +10 (624) and next upgrade going up to 629 ruined it, rolled lowest stats instead of max stats. Although the break points are the cause of this bug, this is still 100% a bug. At least don’t allow people to roll lower stats from the upgraded bracket! Make the current stat as the lowest possible to roll. It’s just common sense - why would you punish someone for doing an upgrade? Worst RNG system I ever saw. 100% a bug, whoever deems otherwise on the design team is bonkers - and this is coming from someone working on software.

I just “upgraded” an item and it reduced my attack power from 6.3k to 5.4k. What in the hell… in what world is that okay?!

can confirm. Just upgraded my 707 ring with 4.7% crit chance 4 times to 727. all stats went up when breaking the 725 breakpoint. crit went down to 2.4%. that is the low roll. it literaly crippled my ring.

There are item breakpoints where they scale into the next bracket of range. There have been numerous numerous videos explaining this. It is intentional and not a bug although it seems extremely illogical

I had the same issue. I had a necklace that was at the top of its bracket in all stats. When I finished upgrading it, 3/4 of the stats were now in the bottom tier, as if they had not upgraded at all, and it had gone back to the original stats pre upgrading. This is not the first time, either. This has happened multiple times. Very frustrating when it takes you 12 hours to find a gear piece you need, only to have the upgrading system ruin it.

So you’re telling us that upgrading is supposed to make the items worse? And that it’s working as intended? I doubt there was a design meeting where someone said “We can make them pay in rare resources to make their favorite items worse!” At best, this isn’t a bug, but a broken game mechanic that needs to be fixed.

yes a broken and illogical mechanic but working as intended

It’s intentional to have it always roll the minimum available number when it upgrades on certain affixes? Because that’s what happens. It’s always the minimum on the tier break for crit %, cdr, attack speed type affixes from what I’ve seen and tested

So no, I doubt that’s intentional but it would be nice to have blizzard comment

Edit, added words for clarity
