Bug spitting Bugs?

Hey all, whats up with the flys in the desert that spit out little green bugs as thier attack? I remember these in diablo 3 absolutely destroying what little immersion there was in that game and i just assumed it was a part of the whole “arcade” game feel where everything lit up and didnt really feel like it belonged. but now we’re here in diablo 4 and we still have those bugs that spit out bugs?

Am I missing something? it seems super wierd to me that these things spit out little glowing green versions of themselves that blow up on you. Is this like a real thing? Does it kill the immersion for anyone else? Can someone explain this to me so I can rationalize it and not get taken out of the game everytime i see one?

thanks, miss u all

They’re in d2 as well.

hmmm i just went through a list of d2 enemies and couldn’t find them, which ones are they? i’ve played pretty recently and cant remember any - do they just attack totally differently?

They are from D2, and D2 fans hurts blizzards feelings so they have to be in D4

I’m sorry…that is what broke your fragile immersion?

Not the cows, the murderous colorful ponies and care bears and their level (whimsydale/shire), the horadric hamburger dagger, spectrum, cosmic wings, the starcraft battlecruiser pet.

But bugs that have bugs nesting inside their mouth is where you draw the line?

I’m no entomologist, but that’s probably one of the more realistic enemies in the game.

yeah cause they showed up in act 2 pretty early on before i saw any of the whimsydale/shire or sc battlecruiser pet – but d3 basically had 0 immersion just from elite packs glowing blue and yellow

in d2 the cow level didnt break my immersion cause those things were deadly, they were angry and bloody and aggressive and it just fit weirdly… it was also optional secret side content not part of progressing through the storyline

bugs nesting bugs in their mouth is cool but not rly if they glow green, can only fly in a straight line, and explode on a timer?

They didnt become obnoxious until D3.

i literally cannot find them, which ones are they? i’m not talking about the swarm of flies, those are cool, i mean the bugs that fly around and shoot bright glowing neon green mini versions of themselves that fly in a straight line and then explode

They dont exist in D2.

Stop looking, youre being trolled. Lol.

well when D3 launched they one shotted you with no exceptions on inferno mode

then people cried hard enough and they nerfed them into the ground

I felt the same way…

I imagine that those large wasps are queens and the green wasps they use as projectiles are drones that explode upon impact, defending the queen. Basically, each wasp queen is her own hive…and those volatile drones are produced purely as a form of self-defense or to subdue prey.

That said, the way that they just drift straight and have no autonomous control makes it feel like more of a spell, and somewhat silly. The wasps would be GREAT if they used attacks similar to the Pestilent Hosts, releasing a swarm of biting insects, but then you’d infringe upon the awesome concept of the Pestilent Hosts.

Alternatively, you could tether them together by claiming that those killed by the wasps BECOME Pestilent Hosts, explaining why they both have the same attack, but I get the impression that the Pestilent Hosts are, from a lore perspective, tied to the Maggots and Abomination insects that have the scythe arms.

If they homed in on the player, even slightly, it wouldn’t feel so silly…as the projectiles would feel more like the drones I think they’re intended to be.

Monster types in D4 are a side grade to D3. Bring back Wendigos.
