Bring "Pit" to the Open World

I get the idea of the “Pit”, but limiting the only end-game challenge to a little Shrine in town is quite ridiculous.

I’d like to see this same idea of the Pit be brought out into the open world. Anything to make it feel more open and free.

It would be somewhat similar to how Helltides work, where certain regions of the land would be given a random Pit level. Killing in the Pit areas should also grant Glyph XP, where you can choose where to allocate via character screen (similar to how you upgraded Blood powers from Season 2). Moreover, items should also drop.

Easy, Normal, Hard: No marked Pit areas.

Penitent: Random areas marked from Pit level 0 to 20.

T1: Random regions marked from Pit level 21 to 35.

T2: Random regions marked from Pit level 36 to 50.

T3: Random regions marked from Pit level 51 to 65.

T4: Random regions marked from Pit 66 to 150. When a 150 rating does spawn, have that part of the land be surrounded by a gold aura or something to make it rare and exciting.

I know a lot more thought would need to go into it… I just want to get away from the redundant Pit Shrine-selecting instances in town. It makes the entire end-game feel so lazy and simple.

:joy: actually not a bad idea

Yeah this has been mentioned a few times - it absolutely should happen. The open world is barely being leveraged at all and it’s incredibly lame that we have to go into the pit (boring as hell) for any actual challenge.

So Helltide 2.0? What color will this one be?

Probably purple… :purple_square:

Ooops, soryy, bad idea…

You do realize that 99% of players cannot pass 110?

Assuming equiprobability theres a 47% chance to spawn an area no one can complete.

The problem with this is the leechers, which many players would complain about.

I’m all for it, but the modern Diablo player seems to be much more navel-gazing than used to be the case. The spirit of the 80s is just about dead. Ironic, since D4’s distinction was to try to get people to cooperate (hence the overworld). If you force them, they’ll resent it.

Ever notice how most ideas generally boil down to “more drops”???

The only reason I don’t do more co-op is because no effort is made for real balancing. Like I want to sit afk in a corner while some p230 Spiritborn with trash gear kills everything in less than a second while my p290 completely decked out WW Barb gets to, ya know, not participate at all.

Well that’s changing S7…
They just don’t really do mid-Season balancing. Never have.

Can’t please everyone. Do a major mid-Season balance pass, you’ll get 1/2 the players screaming “I quit! You ruined mah build!”. Don’t do a mid-Season balance pass, and you get 1/2 the players screaming “It’s not fair! Blizzard doesn’t balance!”

The only real balance I’d like to see are most class abilities increased to be able to clear P100 easier. It shouldn’t require perfect 4 GA gear in every slot.

So… What’s your point?

False. When Barb was getting crazy damage (nothing compared to Spiritborn) back when they made Beserk Damage multiplicative with no cap through Blood Rage, they nerfed it with a low 300% (30x) cap and guess what, they did it mid-season.

Yes. Even if the path to those drops is literally impossible.

Let’s say that these Pit areas last 55 minutes each. If you roll a pit 150 no one can actually kill anything in that area of the map for an entire 55 minutes. If after your pit 150 you roll a pit 130 the same result. About half the time these events roll, so about 12 hours of any given day on average, the entire content area will be completely unapproachable and unwinnable.

It’s funny how the marketing was pushing the open world so much as one of D4 trademarks. Now almost 2 years later people are begging blizz to give the open world some meaning and yet here we are, blizz pushing everyone into small tiny dungeons. :person_shrugging: :man_shrugging: :woman_shrugging:

I know what you mean. I feel I haven’t seen another town in months. Cerrigar is the only town I know.

Sounds like another reskinned helltide - only worse.

So you wanna turn d4 into EverQuest?

It doesn’t have to be a big region. If you can’t hack it, that’s why there are tiers to select.

Why do you want everything handed to you? My goodness. Work for something…

Even now, most of the players that can’t defeat a Pit 110 can hang in the zone without dying. They just can’t produce enough damage to defeat the instance. Since this system would be in the open world, they could piggyback off the better players.

OP is basically asking for SB only regions. Don’t mix the top players with the trash. I am joking but it would have been a bit like that this season.

No need to go to this kind of complicated/problematic stuff. Just add more Torment Tiers. We might go there at some point.

What I would like to have in the Pit or in the open world if we end up with additional Torment tiers is enemies doing more damage not just enemies with more XP. Currently, as long as your build has the damage to clear the mobs fast enough, you keep rushing to the end Boss whatever the Pit tier.
