You can type in local chat but nobody will answer because they cannot see the messages you send. Thus local chat does not work at all. Trade chat is another story I do not even have the trade chat channel option meaning even if the box is checked and unchecked it does not bring up the trade chat channel.
Party chat and whisper chat seems to work yet local chat and trade chat do not. I am not 100% sure but believe this problem happened on console when trade chat was made to be on by default in a patch. Before this patch I had the trade chat channel and local chat while not many used it…it actually did work.
Looking at the forum I am definetly not the only one with this issue with Diablo4. Many people are having this issue and it doesn’t seem right for the team to continue to ignore a bug this big that prevents the use of basic features in the game like local and trade chat.
This has been going on for many months and this needs to be fixed immediately. Alot of people have spent alot of money on diablo 4 and so I’m asking please d4 team please fix this bug already.
This issue cannot be fixed by the user as it seems to literally be a server side bug. So there is nothing the user can do to try and fix this so again I’m asking the team to please take a look at this and fix this issue for people in diablo 4. It has affected not just console users but some PC users as well.

I really hope they develop a fix soon because it has been months with no trade or local chat for me either.

I’m on the PS5. I have cross play and cross comms enabled. And of course the trade and local channels enabled.
I found a consistent way to fix it, but it’s tedious and needs to be done every time.
Disable the local channel under options. CLOSE the game (not just exit the session). Relaunch D4, then re-enable local chat.
This works until the very next time I come back to the game. I suspect it’s something to do with the game timing out and disconnecting when the console goes into sleep mode (I put to sleep mode rather than shutdown).
It makes trade and group runs (for bosses) very tedious to do.

Don’t care that this thread is old. Just want to say thanks for giving a fix for it as this is something I’m still dealing with
Same, old post but a week ago I am now experiencing this problem on PS5. It is pretty annoying that the season is ending in less than two weeks and I just wanted to do something with my items in season 4 before it converts to eternal. In-game trade channel is broken, but maybe my account has been silence. It’s pretty upsetting because I barely use it but due to end of season, I wanted to give away items in-game and the communication is broken. It is 2024, why chat is so hard to implement properly?

My in game trade chat on PS5 ceased working on October 1. I finally wanted to reach out and see if people wanted to team up for tormented bosses and chat doesn’t work. Perhaps Blizzard does it on purpose every season but stays silent about doing it??
It’s now Feb 2025 and I am having this issue. I am on PS4 pro. Is there any solution to this?

Year later and we are still dealing with the same issue. Disappointing
