Boss rota fix notably missing from S5

While the additions and changes to the endgame are mostly quite positive and welcome at first glance, boss rotas are still not fixed. ARPGs are not MMORPGs, and I do not like being forced into using a third party program to efficiently form groups for content. It should never be mandatory to group with others, yet that is still the case with D4 when it pertains to endgame.

A simple fix is to require all players in a party to offer summoning materials before a boss is summoned. The solution is right there. Please don’t turn this into another itemized Aspect/Codex of Power issue and wait an entire year to fix it. Being forced into group play is antithetical to the rest of the game’s design (and the genre’s as a whole). Interacting with other players you randomly bump into in events such as Helltide, Legion, World Bosses, etc, is great and functions without the need to party up.

This singular issue is dramatically reducing how much time I’m willing to put into D4. All the other positive changes are fantastic for the game as a whole, but I will always prioritize other games over D4 as long as D4 requires group play for endgame activities. Party play does not need a quadruple loot advantage from rotas in addition to all the inherent advantages organized group play offers. The issue is made even worse because the game still has next to zero social infrastructure and no scammer protection for rotas.

To add to this, it should come alongside tweaks to boss loot and material cost, so the materials:loot ratio is around the same, so it’s more of a buff to solo play than a nerf to group play.

What would be the benefit of grouping then? Maybe if they increased the loot drop quality per person or something

That is literally the point. The only reason to group should be because you want to play with one or more buddies and do the activities together.

They’ve said they’re working on it so it’ll get here eventually. My guess is it’s coming with the expansion or possibly season 7.

The issue is, that’s just too long for a change so simple. This isn’t like loadouts or a loot filter (two features this game sorely needs and is long overdue for). Ideally, they’d also turn some knobs on boss summoning costs and loot yield, so the loot-to-materials conversion is similar after the fix to what it is today.

This way, it’s more of a buff to solo play than a nerf to group play.

It took 3 seasons, almost 9 months to get bosses to be resummonable within the instances. I don’t think simple is the deciding factor but other things had higher priority. Season 1 2 and 3 were pre planned and probably already started on since launched so now it feels like certain things are moving up the backlog so hopefully it’ll come soon for you.

There shouldnt be a benefit… why should there be? If you wanna play with your friends you do so… theres no need to give groups bonuses. It’s just annoying to no end to find people on discord all the time.

Boss farming no longer mandatory. There are more sources to unique in s5 now.

You could get the routine bonus from party applied to the uber chance.

That is how I would do it.

This is the bigger take away. It’ll probably still be more efficient if you’re after a specific unique, but if you don’t particularly care what you’ll get, just randomly pick an activity.

Which is honestly the best way, let us choose what we want to do and still get rewards, even if it’s not the most “efficient”

No wonder why ppl are swimming in mythic uniques, I never knew about this.

tbh sounds like a push for D3 personal loot, hard pass on that. I would agree more needs to be done to create in game systems to aid/promote social interaction via grouping and trading.

It’s still a major issue with the game as a whole. Does it make the problem less bad? Absolutely. But it doesn’t solve the problem.

That still fails to address the issue. The burden of optimal play requires you do what’s the most optimal. It’s the concept of “optimizing the fun out of games.” This occurs when the most efficient way to do an activity isn’t also the most fun. It’s on the developers to fix it, not the players.

I have no clue what you’re talking about. All loot in D4 is already personal loot. This is merely a call for the devs to fix the blatant issue of groups getting quadruple the loot of solo players, which is bogus design that has no place in a non-MMO.

There should be some advantage to having a group but not 4x, maybe 1.2.

I think 1.5 is too much.

There should be zero loot advantage. Groups already have advantages in that it’s easier for multiple players to kill a boss (you can revive somebody if they die, and multiple people working in concert will outweigh the boss HP increase). You can also get carried by a stronger character if yours is too weak to take on the boss by itself.

That by itself is enough. There should be zero raw loot benefit.

I frankly disagree on the loot advantage, but that’s okay we can stay on opposite terms on it.

There should be some incentive to group up. There is a freakanomics point where it can be dialed into where people are willing to party up for it, but at the same time the solo players don’t feel overly disadvantaged from it that they don’t engage in the activity.

The crux of the entire point is that, as long as there is a loot advantage to group play, then the burden of optimal play forces you into it. ARPGs are not MMOs. All content should be doable solo or in a party. I am not interested in putting much, if any, time into a game where I’m forced to group, and because this is an ARPG, I should not feel this pressure at endgame.

I personally don’t care about optimal play so I don’t feel forced to group. I get why people that do care about it are upset though. The fix imo is to just require groups to all use materials. It’s so brain dead simple.

Instead they did the pit thing where non openers get half mats and no chance at the already rare af stingy stones. This was the most brain dead stupid idea I have ever seen in a multiplayer game.
