Bold Chieftain’s Aspect
- Previous: Whenever you cast a Shout Skill, its Cooldown is reduced by 1.0-3.0 seconds per Nearby enemy, up to a maximum of 6 seconds.
- Now: Whenever you cast a Shout Skill, its active Cooldown is reduced by 10-30% per Nearby enemy, up to a maximum of 50%.
Looks like a buff, but not sure what they mean by “active cooldown”. Isnt it still when its on cooldown? So with 25 seconds, it can get reduced by half (to 12.5) instead of by 6 seconds (to 19)?
I was thinking the same thing. At first I saw Bold Chieftain’s in the notes and groaned, but it seems like a big buff the less cooldown you have and a minor nerf if you have enough cdr to get under 12s (not that it would matter much at that point). Should help out a lot during leveling.
Them making it a percentage, instead of a flat number, typically means it’s a nerf. If there’s 5 seconds of cooldown left, it goes to 2.5 seconds instead of ready to use.
Also, there’s a cap of 75% cdr, so it’s essentially a fat nerf to prevent spamming. Likely due to the Druid shout spam build.

its a big nerf because of a meme druid build (fleshrender+roar) that no one cares about. The balance team doing it’s thing again.

I’m not sure what you mean. The aspect reduces the cooldown when you use a shout. How does it affect your example of making it not ready to use with 5 seconds remaining?
Say you have 2 shouts.
Shout 1 has 5 seconds remaining of cooldown, while shout 2 is ready to use.
Old Bold Chieftain’s:
Shout 2 reduces shout 1’s cooldown by 6 seconds, making it off of cooldown and ready to use.
New:
Shout 2 reduces shout 1’s cooldown by 2.5 seconds (50%), making it have 2.5 seconds remaining before it’s usable.
This isn’t factoring in the cdr cap of 75% or having 3 shouts.
But thats the thing. Doesn’t the aspect only affect the shout itself that you use? When you use a shout, it reduces its own cooldown by an amount. It doesn’t mention anything about a shout reducing the cooldown of another shout?
My mistake.
That’s where the cooldown cap of 75% comes into play. If you’re capped out, it’ll do nothing.
No unfortunately it is an extreme nerf. The higher your cdr comes from other items, especially the Shako, the less effective the Bold Chieftrain is, as it is only a percentage of what you already have. Also, the cdr is capped at 75%.
All affixes and uniques that are strong are nerfed so that they are no longer special at all. In my eyes, Blizzard is doing so much wrong.

Basically if you don’t have a lot of CDR, it’s a buff, if you do it’s a nerf. The more CDR you have from other sources, the more and more of a nerf it becomes.
Honestly, if it helps make Shouts less painful to use while leveling, I’ll take it. I usually don’t run Bold on end game builds anyways.
