I mean yeah I don’t entirely disagree with that either. Is it “preferrable”? Sure. If they could add 75,000 customization options into the game, thousands of hair lengths, colors, arm length, shoulder width, etc etc (including body weight) with absolutely zero dev time? I’d say go for it
I can spend multiple hours on a character creation screen messing with these settings, deciding upon what name I should use for each character, etc
I just don’t think, at least for Diablo, that it’s all that relevant. Yes, there are ingame cutscenes. How many hours of cutscene footage do you think we have in this game? Maaaaaybe 1 hour, at a push? Compared to the ~35 hours it takes to beat the campaign, or the ~150 hours it takes for a completionist run. That’s 1/35 in the best case scenario
Personally I don’t think it’s worth the dev time to try and add something that isn’t really “content”, for something that you’ll see for less than 1/35th of your time playing the game. Not to mention that adding body sliders doesn’t fix this issue, either. There will always be something that people want added in terms of customization
It used to be that there was no customization. You wanna play a druid in D2? Okay, well here’s this 1 character model, with this 1 gender. Now we’ve got gender, face variations, skin tone, eye color, hair styles, facial hair, hair color, makeup, jewelry, markings. Now they also need to add body sliders, which means they need to adjust every armor/weapon model in the game?
