Blizzard's official response to all the battlepass drama (IGN interview with Colin Finer)

Apparently it’s good for everyone and everyone benefited. Talk about doubling-down on this… super disappointing.

" IGN: I’ve seen negative feedback to some of the changes to the battle pass where you get less virtual currency back from it now than before. That won’t have passed you by. Can you talk about the reasoning behind those changes?

Colin Finer: Yeah, I think it’s definitely fair reaction. We’re always listening. I think the thing that we think works a lot better as part of the system is, again, you’re able to really work towards and pick the things you want out of the system. I believe also the Platinum that you gain out of the entire system is available to everyone now. So you don’t even need to buy the battle pass necessarily to gain some of those things back. So it’s a net win for everybody overall, in that sense."

Wow that was a dumber attempt than politicians who don’t answer questions.

What do you really expect him to say? He can’t say “Yeah, our company is greedy and encouraged us to change it to make more money.”

i don’t know. Usually they at least say something like, we’re aware of the criticism and vaguely plan to do something to help improve it at least a little bit. This is just so tone-deaf and arrogant imo. Almost like the “do you not have phones?” thing

Look up in the big thread on the battlepass where I explain how all of this works. They know exactly what they’re doing.

Yep, that’s my takeaway.

Tone deaf and out of touch. Seems to plague the whole team at this point. Without a major shakeup, I don’t see a return to the game we all played for decades and loved (for the most part).

“You used to get 700, now you get 200. That’s a deal!” /s

That’s just Blizzard in general at this point. All we can hope for is whatever corporate culture is causing this gets canned. I don’t think I’ve seen any company disregard player feedback and say “nah it’s fine” as much as blizzard

Except you can’t buy s* with 200 plat and now you need 5 seasons to buy a battle pass with it lmao

so what blizz basically said was “think we care? pull up ninja!”
so what they said was “stop fronting and show up for real type s#&!”
what they mean is “put yo money where yo mouf is foo”
basically “we making moolah f thou”
ok “stop opening your legs tool”
tsk “cmon you love it”
beep boop “boycott son i ×2 dare you”

It’s not super disappointing because Microsoft/acti-blizz have analytics and data that proves people will still buy the battle-pass, especially the people criticising the changes. They know addicts will complain and still buy it.

Stop lying to yourself, purchase the nerfed battle pass to support the mega-corp and be a good little consumer.

He HAS to say this. They are forbidden to say anything they do is unpopular or a bad idea.

This is worse than what’s his name “sticking to his guns” on failed group content.

Now we see who they really are.

This has been the objective from the beginning. Becomes more clear each season.

Really? To whom are you listening? Funny how that is never mentioned.

Hey, we are giving you something completely worthless, why aren’t you happy?

Yup, whole thing is a joke.

True, my wallet remains firmly closed up. The battle pass just got too expensive and that’s that

So just to be clear, they are giving everyone 200 plat for free right (if you finish or unlock it in the season journey) if im not mistaken…
How long is a season 2-3 months right?
So an average skin cost 2k plat right, the more expensive ones are 2.8??
That means atleast 10 seasons of “free” plat to get a “free” skin from the shop amirite?
10 seasons x 2 months= 20 months…20 months divided by 12 = 1.6 years and you got a “free” skin my dude, and if the seasons are 3 months long than its actually 2.5 years but hey its “free” and totally not a jebait that you get 200 or 400 plat and you buy the rest from the shop because you wont effing wait for 2 years…
The BP is the same 1k plat divided by 200= 5 seasons x2 or 3 months is a minimum of 10 or 15 months…
This is just another trick by blizz nobody’s gona wait that long to get a “free” skin or a free BP, they just try to bait people into buying more currency to spend more money on mtx…Shame on blizzard

My wife wanted to get into gaming with me, D4 was a great way to get her started. She recently went into the rewards system and was extremely confused as to why rewards are behind a paywall. “They give you 200 coins though?” Me - yup, good luck buying anything you want for 200 coin. “Why do they do that?” Me - Its to bait you into spending real $$$ for a battle pass. “That is dumb, why do they do that? Didn’t we already pay for this game?” Me - Yes, but they want/need a continual revenue stream. Makes shareholders and board members happy. “But what about us? I want the Owl pet!” Me - You’ll have to spend real money or wait for the possible opportunity to earn more coins. We kept going in circles about how companies get you to spend more money in a game you already purchased to buy things you really don’t need. She still enjoys the game, just hates the rewards system. I’ll have to explain to her, this is what happens when mobile games earn more money than major titles because of in game purchases. Blizzard/Activition/Microsoft are following the market trends with in game purchases. Not exactly good for players, but great for investors and board members.

Is it a reward if you have to pay for it?

Tone deaf Blizzard is tone deaf.

You’re correct but those are all very optimistic figures. Average season length is 3 months, average skin costs 2,500+. At 800 plat per year you need over 3 years to afford most premium skins. It’s basically nothing but a trick, like you said.

I ‘love’ that ingame the free reliquary literally says in the description that with the 200 plat you get you can unlock the weapons section. That’s like the only realistic thing you can do with it - and you still end up with less ‘free’ rewards than in the previous battlepass. And waaay less in the paid pass.
