One question. Does Blizzard skill is from Damage Over Time genre? I don"t know which kind of gem should I put into socket of my 2-handed Staff. I use Amethyst but is it OK?
If it does not give critical damage (yellow numbers), then yes. As far as I remember, he doesn’t.
He doesn’t. Just constant white numbers.
Pretty positive this is not a DOT. The only DOTs I know of are Poison, Bleeding, and Burning. I could be missing one.
From the videos i watch, it is a dot. And benefits from the wrathful heart.
Well ive never ran a ice sorc but its hard to believe blizzard is its own DOT category without specific affix buffs to it. But i believe you since it would make sense since the skill does literal dmg over time.
Probably just another bad game design.
They should probably add a cold DOT affix similar to burn but for cold. Seems to be a major flaw in the blizzard skill if you want to use it as a main skill.
Yes, Blizzard is a DoT.
Don’t worry, they implemented the solution to that created problem already: the Ice Spike aspect returns Blizzard to what it should have been all along: a periodic direct damage AoE that can crit and all that.
You’ll just need a lot of luck to find the correct aspect with the highest possible item level (because for some dumb reason, those direct damage aspects just plainly ignore your weapon stat and so you are forced to constantly find new and stronger ones as you level up)
Well it has the slow, and freeze aspect of it. So, pertaining to what you were saying it should have a dot. I am not sure how that would really apply. Like a frostbite or some lingering effect from being frozen? But then it wouldn’t really work on bosses at all. But, Blizz IS a stationary AOE DOT in my eyes, I am really curious to find out if it is classified as a dot. And if so, try a spec that actually pimps out blizzard like crazy mainly, using straight blizz or cold damage etc. vs just specing for the ice spikes. Would definitely open up a few variables to the ability list which would be dope.

You are replying to a year-old post. Don’t do that, Necromancy is taboo! Just start a new thread. Old threads often have out of date information in them that confuses people.

Yes, Blizzard is a DoT for all intents and purposes. It has been shown to trigger X’Fals, for example. This is well established.

The fact that it’s a DoT isn’t actually that interesting, because the only reason anyone really uses the skill is as a delivery system for Ice Spikes. You can try to make the skill work without them, but good luck. Firewall is also a DoT and has way more supporting aspects, skills and paragon nodes to make it work, and it is only mediocre at best. Burning damage does not scale well, and it has a full kit designed to make it do so while Blizzard does not.
blizzard is instant damage and not a dot.
