Also add onto this certain content creators ruined game balance early for the early access days with timed speedruns of the campaign to level 25.
Asmongold ruined necro minions forever by doing this as they nerfed minions to the ground before release due to his clips and timed speedruns compared to druid and other classes for lvl 25.
It’ll be no different here. They’ll design the itemization around the streamers and leave the rest of us suffering while they gain views.
Developers should NEVER work with content creators on game balance because it ruins the game for regular players. Making the game horrible for the players just so they go watch streamers speedrun the game with their own personal itemization update they helped create.
It’s rare for a content creator to be genuine when wanting a game to be good for everyone but the one’s selected for this preview over half of them are doing it for self interest and views.

True, I’ll try to give them the benefit of the doubt. It’s no small task, I hope Blizz can find something good. My concern is an item system for people with 10 hours a week to play vs. people with 80 hours a week to play can be quite difficult to balance, especially when we throw in trading.
But yeah, no point in stressing out over what we don’t know yet.

No why would you say that? He’s one of the best players to play the game, he knows it inside out.

Based on Blizzard history… They won’t execute this very well even with streamer help. They haven’t listened at all to anyone but themselves.
Of course widijo is going to hope it turns out well. He gets paid to play D4 to promote maxroll. If D4 dies his Bank account goes down.

That’s the problem…
Others don’t share his great knowledge. If he attempts to help the devs create or change something it’ll just benefit him and his current knowledge of game mechanics and it’ll confuse newer players.
He also likes to incorp bugged passives/glyphs or effects in builds and not put immediate disclaimers on his written guides.
On a personal level for me and him I just don’t like him. He’s the obnoxious hob goblin of ARPG’s we all picture when someone plays 16 hours a day in a dark basement.

I watch a couple guys who have NDA’s who would love to spill the beans but can’t.
Does that imply that they like it and want to tell people?
Streamers are the most narcissistic people on earth. They have cult followings that boost thier ego. They stream for money but dont really care about thier viewers even if your a 120 month sub. TWITCH IS BAD FOR GAMES PERIOD. SPEED-RUNNERS CAN F OFF.

Your argument hinges on two assumptions:
- any change he suggests will be to his exclusive benefit – which is not necessarily true, he has quite a history of wanting things to be good for everyone.
- any change he suggests will confuse newer players more than the system already does – which also isn’t a given. (ask any new player to explain how overpower works/worked)
Actually, his BL sorc guide last season clearly indicated that BL was bugged.
His Rogue video about the bugged build was also indicated in the title of the video
You’re also admitting to personal bias here, which kind of undermines your credibility.
Certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion. I don’t share yours when it comes to him however
Here’s all you need to know about content creators…
They make money through content creation. They will never do anything that harms their income stream, at least on purpose.
They are not game experts, they don’t know about design. Their job is not to create games. To depend on content creators to develop a game is quite frankly… stupid.
So what’s going to happen next, once the NDA is over (assuming all this is true of course) you’ll get content creators talking about how THEY designed this and that. But you know what they’ll say when people don’t like it… “wasn’t me”. Not only is trusting non-designers for design purely stupid but you’re also setting yourself up as bait for clicks.
Want to know how little content creators know about game design, you have to look no further than the Overpower changes that did nothing to solve the problems. I can’t think of a single content creator that didn’t say it was the reason barbs were OP. Turns out a bunch of people that don’t know anything about design really didn’t know anything about design. They sure got views on their videos talking about the problems with overpower though.
Thats fair to you. But doesn’t automatically invalidate what I said above about him in the slightest.
This is what drove last epoch in the ground for me and others when the streamers created unique items and had deep hands into the legendary crafting or other corruption mechanics in the endgame which made it a chore for average players.
The same logic applies to Mythic raiding guilds having hands in the development and mechanics choices the devs have to make for future raids because of addons and how hardcore these people are when competing for world’s first and that leaves the 98% of the rest of the playerbase in the dirt complaining about the decisions made for these 2% of players.
But just you guys watch… It wont be blizz who screws this up if they had a hand from streamers like wudijo in making the new itemization update. Just remember that.

Which is why I am slowly respecting Darth(DM) when he says its his job to play the game and that’s it. He doesn’t boast about how he can lend a hand to create a better game he just plays it and his viewers watch it.
These streamers should only get this preview to simply hype it up. Not help create it. Because if they do that it’ll end like I said above. They’ll be the only one’s who benefit from playing it and others will find it a chore to play and blame blizzard when in reality it’s the streamers who made it.
Then the streamers will boycott blizzard as well to cover their tracks.
Ha, I can sort of see where you’re coming from. I really respect Wudijo on some level. I think he’s an extremely skilled player, I think he’s pretty smart, and can digest and understand the systems and math behind the game very well. I think his guides are generally pretty good - though in general I try to not use guides (maybe that’s why I’m always so slow at D4).
So while I certainly appreciate and can’t deny his game skills and knowledge, I just absolutely would not want to live life like him. It’s just sort of sad to see a grown man stay awake for 30 hours without eating or showering to try to get to level 100 first each season. Maybe my opinion would be different if he didn’t seem so profusely unhappy.
Lets at least agree on one thing here. Blizzard can not come out 5 days before season 4 and introduce the new system like they did with all mechanics in S3. Because those mechanics did not actually work when players started to play them. We need a PROPER test on this system and PTR should be going live at least 1 month before the season goes life.

Yep we need that PTR… let regular players play it and give direct feedback. Not select streamers having a hand in a preview version of it.

They have been previewing everything with content creators. It’s been working out swell…

Agreed.
wudi is intelligent and can understand things put in front of him better than most streamers but he’s done nothing to show me he knows how to design a game. So to base the game on his thoughts, which are based on his playstyle which is absurdly abnormal, seems like a bonkers thing for a company to do.

I dont care what they say. I make my own assessment based on what I see. This is a big problem. Too many people just want to be told how to think and then follow the crowd.

In many lines of work there are these people called subject matter experts.
In some ways, someone who plays a bunch of games and not just D4 would probably be the best person to give feedback - especially someone who has traversed a lot of the ARPG universe or related games.
The important thing here is that they need to cast a wide net of feedback and then figure out what feedback is consistently the same and then consider changing according to that.
This is the same as what we have on forums. Certain things come up over and over again, those things need to be evaluated / reevaluated on a regular basis for change.
