Several updates already since launch and the game still freezes constantly during gameplay.
This wasn’t an issue post launch nor in Season 1
But now doesn’t matter if I activate/deactivate crossplay, or change the font or cursor scaling or uninstall/reinstall high quality graphic packs ect stated as workaround out there.
It is really frustrating loose out on half of your helltide shards or die in a NM dungeon where even half a second error can cause you to die, but the game freezes for 3-5-8 seconds.

Many freeze come from the game downloading assets on-demand from their CDN (I can see a lot of network packet retransmission on my side, this usually happen because of network congestion).
Sometime the server also hangout and simply don’t answer anything (then the game retry the download).
This issue slow down when there is less people playing and/or a few days later when most people had these assets downloaded (they are only downloaded once), just because the CDN are now less used.
Unless Blizzard figure out how to fix what seem to be an infrastructure problem, this will happen at any season launch or big patch when people come back.
I also experience this. I’ve had to kill the process using task manager so many times with other players around. Usually when UI opens up on my screen (inventory, whispers reward, etc). I am comparing Diablo 4 to Dune 2000 at this point.

Yup - atrocious condition.

If the full download isn’t fully downloading assets, it should actually let people fully download. Pretty easy fix. I’ve never played with a download far enough along it lets me play. I always wait until it is done. I shouldn’t have to lag because someone else is playing with a partially downloaded client. They can easily fix this by making everyone download 100% before being able to play and the game services should be decoupled from asset downloading.
the game always had optimization issues, it has to have something to do with their heavy move to console. one thing blizzard was always respected for was their polish and optimization, not anymore

I have had the same issue. During gameplay I will experience anything from a slight freeze to full on stop. I can still send out messages to party members, but I am unable to interact, the enemies will be stuck in place. I cannot teleport, leave game, leave dungeon, anything. Very frustrating.
But you can be killed in HC this way … been there , done that.
Even if you wait for the complete update on the bnet app, D4 will still download things on demand.
Can’t agree more on that.
Technically speaking, you freeze because you don’t have the needed asset at that moment, so the game download it (ie: you also have a partially downloaded client/non uptodate datafiles); and because everybody is in this situation, infrastructure get overloaded at peak times.
I don’t really question the design, being able to play without all the assets is nice because the initial and required download is shorter, but by relying to much on this design, Blizzard put to much stress on their infrastructure.
happened to me in a BH last night, twice, in hardcore.
luckily i survived both even if in the middle of combat by spamming the scroll of escape as soon as i noticed something was weird.
thank god for those scrolls lol
never got it in normal play or in helltides. blood harvest did it twice in a row though.
Im not saying you all are wrong, but i have yet to have any type of graphical freeze other than loading from one area into another while it loads everyones stuff. Lag? Maybe but even then i havent had too much. This just brings up the question. Is it blizzard or aomething else? Maybe its a video card incompatibility, maybe its a weird isp issue. It could be an optimization issue on blizz’s side, but its impossible to fix all of those. Thats part of why making pc games is so difficult.
CDN issues are definitely one kind of issue, and there are other for sure. Different issues, with different root cause then different fixes.
Based on various feedback, video card drivers is definitely one of them and the player can act on this by version update/rollback.
Unless it’s caused by a software on our private network (windows update, steam, deezer/youtube, …) downloading stuff, we could hardly do anything against lag/rubberbanding as a player. There is still some options, but they required advanced knowledge in networking: in short, setting up network QOS rules to give higher priority to some network flow like the ones used by D4 or rate-limiting the others (complex to setup, and it won’t fix anything that don’t come from your private network).
CDN issue could also be worked around by the player but it will likely break the EULA so I won’t talk more about it (if a Blizzard staff land here, I really want to discuss about it with you guys).
Well if i wouldn’t use the same rig since D4 released and the same GB internet connection i used when the game first came out, i would also count these as possibilities. But since the issue wasn’t present till Okt 16 in season 1, and started suddenly with the release of Season 2, I’m highly confident that this isn’t an issue of the many many individuals facing these problems.
Only one solution which seemingly helped for most people was to roll back the NVidia driver to a way earlier state from around august (not sure which is the exact driver version).
To be honest i refuse to do that, since fixing the issue with one game isn’t worth to generate more issues with more games.
But one thing is certain. As i observed, this happens for people with nvidia GPUs.
Yes, all of that is true. But he mentioned freezes not rubber banding. A lot of the runber banding i come across in this game is due to somehow ending up where a box spawns so im trapped in it unless i evade lol.
At this stage I feel its safe to assume that they don’t know what is causing the issue.
My 4 year old PC has freezes every 30-60 seconds with everything on the lowest setting.
Guess what is runnig like a champ… My SteamDeck. There must be so much spagetti code in this. Microsoft will open an italien restaurant in at Blizzard HQ.
Was waiting to see if the patch would help the freeze issue…NOPE!!! randomly freezes to the point the game is not playable. Freezes from anywhere between 2 seconds to 90 seconds. I have tried all the lowest settings and the game still freezes for the same lenth of time as the hihest settings. The game usually freezes while using menues, transitioning between towns, walking in a town and opening up the inventory will freeze the program. My FPS is always around 120 when it freeses so my card is handling it fine. This is a Blizzard issue which needs to be fixed ASAP cause it is pushing its players away from the game…such a pitty…

It would be fine if we are invulnerable while
The game is frozen. For some reason only our character is frozen while everything else gets to move around and do damage. Come on Blizzard. Come on.

You should try playing hardcore, it makes it more exciting and challenging
Thx i’m not my own enemy.
FYI: I am a Director of IT at a SE corporation. We build all our workstations and Servers in house.
Is it Blizzards fault or not? I average between 20 - 25 hours per week since launch. My brother averages between 35 - 40 hours per week since launch. Neither of us have experienced a single lockup.
The vast majority of D4 players are not experiencing lockups. If you are waiting on Blizzard to fix a problem that does not exist than you will be waiting a long time. I’m not saying this to be a dick but to be honest. You either need to learn how to fix your machine, find someone to fix it for you, or switch to consoles. A month or two ago I posted a thread on how to start fixing your machine.
