Blighted Corpse Explosion and Blight not considered a DoT

Blight does dmg when the ball hits the target… That can crit

Shadow Bone Storm is amazing. People are crazy.

What do you want with a shadow build ? Corpses and fast Shadowblight proc for Blighted. What does Shadow Bone Storm ? exactly that.

It does damage and hits a lot of times which can help you to stack armor from disobedience. It also has damage reduction and spawns around your golem to do more damage.

It’s a very good ability.

And if you combine it with with the aspect of shielding storm, it becomes a huge defensive cd

So the issue here is they’re indeed NOT coded as DOT effects. I’m not entirely sure which is better. As of now blighted CE can stack on top of itself 5 times before further casts replace the first.

Kripparian did a video recently on how DOTs are coded in D4 and it’s quite neat. They take a snapshot of the total damage the dot will do when it is applied and the amount goes on the mobs health bar as grey health and will do that snapshot of damage . This is how sorceror fire wall works. Staying in the firewall continually increases that amount. DOTs are also not mitigated by resists or damage reduction once applied and snapshot.

I’d personally like it if they worked the same.

It is only useful for the barrier generation from the legendary and stacking your shadowblight triggers. The actual damage it does is AWFUL. Also, fun fact, damage snapshots in this game. So if you cast the storm before your 250% damage boost from the legendary then your storm will not do 250% damage even during the buff.

How did you come to this conclusion? Every bit of testing I have done says otherwise.

Lol, I just use Blighted Corpse Explosion instead of an ultimate. I have my minions set up to generate huge piles of corpses.

I NOTICED THIS TOO WHEN I FIRST MADE MY NECRO!
Absolutely dumb…I figured at first maybe the minion ultimate was supposed to be the “darkness” one but further playing didn’t really feel like it fit in with anything.

I hope they instill a proper darkness ultimate.

Both Bone Storm and Blood Wave can be turned into darkness spells with a legendary and I don’t care what anyone says shadow Bone Storm absolutely wrecks.

I heard of that one and know the dmg type changes to shadow, but what about the actual VISUAL spell effect? Does that change at all?

Still hoping for an actual shadow ultimate to be squeezed in later.

The visual changes a bit. Bone Storm it is like an extra purple cloud added to the whirling bones (subtle though. not a big change) and I believe Blood Wave turns darker. I’ll have to check it out and see. But yeah when I was in the beta I thought it was super weird that Shadow had so few spells but then I realized that you can turn Corpse Explosion to Shadow and with legendaries you can make Blood Mist, Bone Prison, Bone Storm, and Blood Wave into shadow. Shadow is pretty solid actually.

They should be shadow damage over time. I assume it’s one of the many Necro bugs atm. Bugs all over the game but Necro has by far the most.

but we have paragon notes they say “shadow dmg over time…”…

Don’t go by tooltips in any case. They seem to be bugged for many classes with no change when you put on gear or have aspects which increase damage with conditions.
The only way to see if something is working is by killing mobs and watching screen damage pop ups.

Checked Blood Wave and with the Shadow Aspect it turns into a sort of murky grey/brown color similar to Blighted Corpse Explosion.
