Black screen after 8/8 patch

game goes to black screen clicking play after 8/8 patch

BioFiend,

try this. there’s a possibility battle.net files are corrupted. this will force new files without a reinstall. this is not the same folder where the LocalPrefs.txt is located.

make sure you force stop battle.net’s agent.exe and all battle.net related processes in task manager before doing this.

also, if you have not done this yet,
try deleting your Local.Prefs.txt file located in your Documents > Diablo IV folder

tried deleting said files, didnt work. reinstalling game, will update this thread after.

yeah, good luck.

if you have internal graphics + dedicated gpu you could try setting the “Adapter” value to 1 from 0 in the LocalPrefs file as well.

There are a lot of other posts from weeks ago about Black Screen with Music after launching game, but I didn’t see a solution posted for any of them.

are you by chance using an AMD gpu?

i am using amd gpu, i assume you found correlation rx 7900 xt

not sure if you’ve done this already, but if you use Adrenaline software, there is an option to install older drivers. Try rolling back a version or two.

I don’t have an AMD gpu so I am not familiar with the in software option of doing this.

I do know you can do this as a manual download and install of older drivers.

pulling up adrenaline to see.

yeah, not trying to make you roll back, but there are a lot of posts of newer AMD drivers having compatibility issues with D4 for some reason

its relatively new, 2 months at most but i do remember updating driver but it says there are no older versions available. i just put it back to factory…
reinstalled, set gpu back to factory… same grey to black screen after clicking play with music in background.

thank you for replies and links. gonna try that now. will update.

last option i have then i’m out of ideas for you if the driver roll back doesn’t work:

Try going to Documents → Diablo IV, open LocalPrefs.txt and change the line DisableChromaEffects “0” to DisableChromaEffects “1”

the 1st rollback didnt work and netted same result but the older one than that has it working now. i really appreciate that you helped me thru this, especially with the consistently quick response times and sources for fix. lets see how stable it will be from this point. thank you very much.
maybe i spoke too soon? crashed selecting character.
rebooted and its doing that black screen thing again.

idk man, i’ll update if i think of something for you

not sure what to think, the driver update fixed game freezes. will rollbacks bring back the freezing if it even works? this last patch included something that nukes my ability to play.
also not sure why i it locks me into “playing now” on blizz client, which is why i need to reboot so oft.

do you have razer synapse or any razer software / overlays running?

no razer. it is back to the black screen after grey. lmmfao, i think ive rebooted 30 times in 2 hrs this morning.
so i got it to work doing a 3rd older rollback but after logging out and attempting to log back in, right back to the same misery. seriously, it was working fine until this last patch.

try this i guess?

battle.net > top left drop down settings > game settings > diablo iv
check additional command line arguments
-bypassgpudrivercheck
click done

also, are you certain the game isn’t trying to run on internal cpu graphics?

i am going to try and check in a few and give you update. i have to reset and get responsible with reality after this amount of time invested to blizzard this morning.
if it is running on cpu graphics, what do i do?
i went thru the settings and clicked it onto gpu. about to restart to see results.

i posted this a bit back.

it’s a change in the LocalPrefs file
