Best Class for New Players?

So. Server Slam and launch are just around the corner.

Got a text from a friend whos never played Diablo before - “yo jack, whats the best class for beginner diablo 4 players?”.

So if you were giving tips to New Players. What Class would you recommend and why?

Can be a short answer. Can be detailed. And Ill pass on some of the feedback. Thank you

I’d suggest sorc as it is both fun and easy. I don’t recommend the melee classes for your first attempt.

There really is no right answer here. All of the classes are fine and it really depends on what your friend is looking for. Sorc or Necro would be the way to go for an easy experience if that’s what he means. But all of the classes are fine, and I’d recommend anyone to start with whatever they think is cool if I wanted them to enjoy their first impression.

Necro was easiest. No question.

Sorc had OP chain lighting, but that was nerfed.

Rogue has OP mobility, but it probably had the highest skill roof of all classes.

I suppose it depends on what you want out of the game. If it’s just 1-50 to do the campaign then drop it to Adventurer and play anything. Pretty trivial answer, though, and not very interesting.

Suppose you want to do more than that, maybe not full endgame but at least Tier 3 or so. Here’s my bottom 3, ordered from least recommended to more recommended.

  1. Rogue. Phenomenal class, but possibly has the highest skill ceiling. Not a lot of passive mitigation and very movement dependent.
  2. Druid. Very, very fun class but perhaps the least straightforward.
  3. Necro. Some may be surprised by this, but the class is pretty squishy and has almost no mobility. Once you get past the point that minions are carrying you, these things become bigger issues.

That leaves Barbarian and Sorcerer and that may come down to playstyle as much as anything. With a lot of barrier items, Sorcerer can have pretty good survivability. The Barbarian has loads of passive damage mitigation and is probably the most straightforward of all the classes.

Lightning (or fire with Hydra) Sorc and Necro (any build) are definitely easiest. If they want melee they should go with rogue. Leave Barbarian and Druid with the experienced and patient.

I’d suggest any pet builds for new players. Also a big tip for leveling is always have an active elixir going, most elixirs you craft in town gives you +5% extra exp gain for 30 min. Make sure to collect herbs and other crafting materials to craft elixirs.

Since we’re talking leveling it should be one of the ranged classes. Necro is sooooo smooth leveling (at least to 25) with pets and corpse explosion. Both of those are nerfed to some degree, but I bet similarly easy.

I do agree with others in that all are viable if you turn the difficult down to lowest… but melee could still feel tedious.

Necromancer is the easiest class to level with pets and corpse explosion.

Lets not take this to some silly extreme. None of the classes were only viable on the easier setting. They were just a bit slower. And now the two that were slower not only got buffed, but boss mechanics were also adjusted to be less punishing to melee. Along with this, necro and sorc both saw nerfs.

Yes, the ranged classes will still be easier. But all classes were viable already, and now the gap will be closer.

What’s your opinion of pears? Would you be offended if I said they can be eaten fresh?

This person literally just said that some classes are only viable on the easiest setting.

All classes were easy and powerful after the first hour or so of gameplay at the most. People cry that Barb and Druid were not powerful, but they are just crybabies. Those classes felt perfectly fine. Just play what you think looks fun. If you aren’t having fun then swap to something else.

Easiest to Hardest to level (from my experience):

  1. Sorcerer
  2. Necromancer
  3. Rogue
  4. Barbarian
  5. Druid

Placement of Barbarian and Rogue could swap come server slam though, as they changed how some bosses work and buffed Barb’s DR by 10%.

Why would you rate them like that when Barb and Rogue were the strongest in the last beta at max level? Druid was basically immortal at 25 as well. Necro was kinda trash without the invulnerable legendary because your minions just get wrecked by the two hardest bosses and are completely worthless.

Recommending an “easy” class is a trap.

Just pick the class which theme you enjoy the most. Why do people always need to be told what to like and think?

They never used, nor implied, the word “only” and yet you teed off on them.

Dunno how much the changes will actually effect stuff but…

Necromancer is very easy and feels very strong right away without any special gear.

Sorcerer is a bit more involved than Necro but has pretty much everything and easy enough to understand

Rogue takes a bit more but has really good mobility and really good sustain

Barbarian and druid were both kind of a mess.
Barbarian feels like it has a ton of potential but it is 100% melee and very limited sustain making it maybe the most difficult to feel like your doing well

Druid is a lot like a barbarian except everything it does feels kind of sluggish in exchange for some range and minions.

Theoretically the problematic stuff is fixed so everything should feel good but who knows
