Best Class Ever

Check in here if you think Necromancers are the best class ever even if the minions aren’t perfect.

Checking in. Wait… where’s my Golem??

Perhaps there is room for improvement, understatement perhaps from what i have heard.
I didn’t play him during server slam.

I do want to start with a necro summoner.
And i don’t want the summons to instantly die ,i want them to be useful like in Diablo II.
But i don’t want them to do all the fighting for me ,like in Diablo II.

Well, that’s the point, you sacrifice three skill slots and a ton of skill points and paragon rare and legendary nodes and basically all the 10 aspects to have that permanent minion spell dealing damage/removing aggro etc around you all the time, and your work should be non other that keeping them up, apply curses and explode corpses.

Else, just pick a sorc or sacrifice the minions and go full blood/bone/darkness.

Starting with sorc, but looking forward to season 1, the build i have planned for my shadow/darkness dot necro is insane.

At level 10 the summons are useless vs bosses.

Most minion buffs are at the bottom of the skill tree, they start slow, but at lvl 20 or so they begin to perform well.

I can verify that from server slam to this release the minions are much better. The first dungeon was a cake walk. Minions did die however they still didn’t get one shotted.

As a summon necro i check everything that makes them better and gets me corpses.
It works and now that i am lvl 22 they are starting to get stronger.

A bit worried about end game and higher difficulty settings.

I’ve been using shadow minions and for a little bit I used the golem. I am at level 30 now and just finished the first act and minions felt pretty good even without giving them any sorts of buffs. I imagine they will drop off but for leveling I am enjoying them.

You are very wrong. I was on this Boss fight where missiles where everywhere. My minions absorbed all the damage instead of me getting the damage. They clear all the missiles for me. And when they die, I just summon another one. Replaceable shields.

It’s for advance Pet players if you were doing Pet builds on D3. I like it so far.

I got up to about level 37 or so (end of act 2) before I went to bed and so far shadow skeletal mages are amazing. Did take three points of Skeletal Mage mastery but they are the only minions I am using. The times a boss wipes them out I can resummon them again pretty quickly because I took reap as my basic skill.

I’m lvl 40 doing a minion corpse explosion build and I typically don’t have any issues with minions dying. In a tough boss fight most might die but at that point the boss is dead. I really haven’t had to resummon until the fight is over. I tried barb up to lvl 14 and necro feels leaps and bounds better. Barb may be better at endgame according to lots of sources but leveling it is miserable.

Yup. Expecting my shadow mages to drop off at end game but for leveling they have been great. Necro is a super fun class to level.

Even at higher levels, especially if you are relying on the minions to generate corpses.
I did Malnok before I had the army of the dead skill, so after a few minutes all my guys were dead, no more corpses coming, and the golem takes a while to come back after death. So it was all me running around waiting for golem to spawn, and getting in some attacks while the boss was distracted.

This is why I left necro at level 13 and went druid.

Minions are so very underwhelming.

Once you get through the early levels necros get better, even without advanced lego farming.

I did the whole campaign on T2 with mine. (got to lvl 50)
Ran the capstone too.

Necro is incredibly strong. I am at a loss to understand how people are struggling with them.
