Battle.net and Diablo 4 down?

In a queue now, less than 6 minutes ETA to login…

It took them a long time to address this. There is no excuse as of like 10 minutes ago.

Their customer service X account and other socials are silent at the moment.

For a while it was almost certainly to disrupt the “race to world first” for the current season tier in World of Warcraft, however that’s over now and it’s anyone’s guess as to why this keeps happening on a repeated basis.

They’d need to get into the Battle.net back end to do this. And Blizzard has a very well staffed network operations center (NOC). That doesn’t mean a DDoS can’t succeed in disrupting activities, but there is little likelihood of getting player data given how well Blizzard does secure it. The only time Blizzard was breached all the bad actors ended up with were salted hashes and no actual player data. And Blizzard forced password resets for everyone even before they were legally required to announce the breach.

The running meme is that it’s OnlyFangs, but I don’t think there has been any real evidence made public that implicates them yet. Blizzard would have more info than players though, so if it is a guild soliciting illicit services to cause issues for others, they may be permanently removed in the end.

You’d be surprised how many people don’t realize the connections with Battle.net and the fora. This despite the fora pulling data directly from Battle.net’s databases for account purposes.

The issue didn’t start until 10:05 PM PDT. It’s only 10:45 PM PDT. I’d like to see you resolve problems like this instantly…

No excuse for the general public to miss the notifications … this has nothing to do with blizzards response … just other folks not knowing the servers are down… Easy killer!

I am in finally, all seems ok

Well, it did take a little bit for Blizzard to get that into the announcement on the Battle.net app, though tonight’s notification was quicker than the last few.

It’s also off hours, outside of prime time, which can impact response time.

They used their resources to resolve the issue or start resolving prior to notifying players.

I’m back in and playing. Agreed on the quick response considering the time of day. Happy hunting!

Yeah, it is. I asked myself which group of individuals would have the reason and resources to do this. Given what we know about S8, reduced drop rates, increased leveling time and no target farming it started to point to one particular type in my mind. We can only speculate as they will never say. Follow the money.
