Basic skills all bad except Storm Strike?

Every build I have tried and every set of legos and I end up stuck with using Storm strike every time. Even when the builds should work great using one of the other skills they never end up working out.

It also has 25% damage reduction on it while doing around the same damage as all the others. I suspect this is why it ends up being so much better than everything else.

Thanks for in depth discussion.

imo storm strike is by far the best one for sure. I would say bear second for me personally.

As a standalone skill, Storm Strike is the best and its not even close imo.
But if you play some kind of werebear build, you drop to human form while auto attacking, therefore you probably want to use Maul instead (or Earth Spike with helmet)

Also im not sure when you use Pulverize in human form, if dmg bonuses from ‘dmg while in werebear’ etc apply before the hit or not. If not then you definitely wanna use Maul (while crying about 25% dmg reduction and vuln)

the shapeshift base skills all get a bunch of shapeshift bonuses from other talents and stuff. You wouldn’t use stormstrike just because on those builds.

I’ve been using Claw for a while now. I’m lvl 62 WT3 as a werewolf/poison build

However, if I get the unique staff that lets me do claw and storm strike ill try out the wolf/lightning build

Leveling wise, storm is pretty good. Once you get a few legendaries and some uniques, it’s time to switch to something with a little more pop.

I use storm strike on my bear/pet hybrid. I’ve also got passive points put into extra damage when shapeshifting and also extra spirit generation when switching to human form. It’s adding an additional generator to my builder and spirit is never an issue for me.

I’m also gaining extra fortify when shapeshifting plus a damage reduction through passives. There is a lot of interesting synergy in the skill tree that make the skill worthwhile. The vulnerability was too good to pass up on the skill itself so I found a way to make it perform better.

I took the passive at the bottom of the tree that gives earth skills a 20% chance to cast a storm skill in the same category (and vice versa). I tried out using Earth Spike to see if it would cast wind shear. It did. And they both generated spirit. I don’t even think it matters if the skill is on the bar, just that you have it. Now I can fill up mana super quick, even at range.

I also have the Nature passive 20% chance aspect and the werewolf are storm aspect.
I use Claw and it casts the Earth Spike occasionally

The one thing I haven’t seen mentioned or pointed out about Claw is not only can you select the 10% increase attack speed for it, but out of all of the druid’s basics it has 50% lucky hit chance

I’d say storm strike with damage reduction is best in early leveling say from 1-30, then you start getting into legendaries and builds that can use the other basics more effectively.

Maul feels too slow. Like hitting something in slow motion.

yeah its kind of slow but with the fortify and increase range, it makes up for it imo. i like it better than wolf.

Storm Strike is just too loaded with good stuff right from the start. The other basics have their uses, I hope, just later on. I’m hoping the increased Lucky Hit chance on Claw will come into play.

Tbh, I felt the same way about claw as a resource generator until I found an item that gives that skill type (core? idk what those base attack types are off hand) +44% attack speed.

I’m using Earth Spike, but only because it procs Earthen Might. Which, in turn, gives more Landslides. Really considering switching it up since it’s intermittently awesome or bad, but the stuns and Earthen Might auto-crits are hard to pass up. Trampleslide is a board/boss clearer. And stacking all of the damage reduction from being in Werebear form (Skill Tree + Paragon board + basic attack = 20% damage reduction) makes it very tanky with the Vasily’s Prayer unique.

I finally dropped Vasily’s Prayer and Earth Spike with it is soo good, especially compared to this piece of sh1t Maul. Ranged auto attack, and very fast, yes please. I love it (Pulverize build)

(not to brag but also got lucky with rolls, 1035/1077 life etc lol)

Earthen spike is fast (1.5x attack speed), has no travel time and always hits, can proc stuns. Is an earth move so it can be used to proc certain passives, fortify etc. Wind shear can proc vulnerable from range and has pretty solid spirit regen if there are multiple enemies.

All of the human basic skills are good imo. It’s just that stormstrike is so good (borderline godly), people seem to think there aren’t other options when there really are.

That lucky chance is a very interesting point. I was already considering trying claw to apply poison, now I’ll definitely need to test it out more.
