Expertise is really strong which is great, but when you want to swap builds to weapons you haven’t used all game (2h to 1h for example) you start out at square one. You’re missing a ton of DPS and it takes absolutely forever to level them. It really limits your ability to try different builds.
Expertise should just be a resource generated from attacking that can be spent however you wish or it becomes this way when you’re using a mastered weapon so you can side level other weapons.
It’s a bit of a bummer that there’s so much grind involved for the benefit while other classes don’t have any investment required.

No. Leave as it is, it’s perfect. Barb require some effort to master, let’s keep it that way.

Spoken like someone who hasn’t swapped weapon types late game.
So far to the 20’s RNG has made this varied for me really.
No weapon untouched really as rng and I are old “friends”. It goes be happy I gave you something. and I go…sure, as if I have a choice lol.
No its perfect. Its an ARPG level your Sh*t up homie.
I haven’t used my two-handers all game because I am running a frenzy/double-swing barb. I wanted to use two-handed sword mastery in my “technique” slot, but I would have to completely switch builds just to level it. This to me is incredibly boring because those skills don’t interest me at all, only dual wield interests me, and leveling masteries is really slow. This is the reason why the leveling system for expertise is horrendous the way it is: it forces you to use a build you DONT WANT TO USE, which can be incredibly boring.
Another real simple solution is:
-Allow whatever mastery is selected in the “technique” slot to gain exp along side whatever other weapons we currently are using.

Yeah. I dropped my Barb around 61. Between nerfs, lack of fixes of true issues, disabling things instead of fixing things, and the kicker having to add hours of grind just to swap specs? Nah. I am good.
Unsure why some masochists feel like it’s good when no other class has to do it.
Literally takes no time to level, I’ve had mine all at 10 since forever ago… Also Druid has to unlock Boons through offerings so it’s kinda the same.
It takes does take a long time – certainly more than every other class. It’s an arbitrary grind that no other class has to deal with.
Druids is not the same. Their things are drops. They drop off everything. They can level them while playing a core build.
Barb has to change their talents, change their skills, possibly their paragon, get decent equipment for the slot and grind each weapon for hours and you’re essentially relegated to lesser tier content because pushing NM keys with level 1 weapons? Yeah, not happening.
Expertise leveling is a one time thing tho, ideally you want all weapons leveled to max and no it doesn’t take forever at all.
Bro it takes about 2hrs of playing to level them all to ten.
Why do people who have so little competence in problem solving instantly want the entire game changed. Cmon man, grab a weapon and play. Stop wanting everything catered to you because you cant put the round peg in the round hole.
tired of this class, you can keep your effort for no reward, just going to dump this fire before it burns me.
Simply false. Using an axe as my Whirlwind item and being in almost permanent spin and playing for about 4 hours of helltide/NM keys got me from 8.5-10. Playing the entire store and oodles of side content along the way purely using 2handers alternately got me to 10/10/8 in 2handers by the end.
Why do people who don’t value their time obsess over gatekeeping grinds that nobody has an interest in doing and no other class has to deal with? People do want to play the game. They just don’t want to have to erase their build or drop it down multiple difficulties to deal with the poor balance/scaling to decently kill things.
You’ve been drinking way too much koolaid or are counting blizzcoins in your wallet if you thing it’s a defensible mechanic. It could have been executed on far better from having milestones based on player level, player level leading to quest changes fleshing out the class, etc. Hell, they could even let the technique slot gain equal experience. But nope.

Well we found the person who has never touched Barbarian in their life.
I’ve been on the grind from 0-10 for about 3-4 days now, in roughly 4 to 5 hour bursts, and I still only got the mastery to Rank 8, all while playing a skill I don’t care about with gear that doesn’t synergize at all with the ability I’m being forced to use to get these rank-ups.
2 hours? All of them? HAHAHAHAHA! What alien planet do you live on again?
Grinding it isn’t as bad as I thought. I was grinding at world tier 1 just to speedrun dungeons and sidequests for renown at the time and it it wasn’t moving at all, but the amount you get I’m guessing is based on the enemies level as well as damage dealt etc.
as soon as I switch to tier 3 my 2H Axe went from half way through 5 to half way through 6 in about a dungeon and a half.
so I’m also assuming if I farmed in T4 or some lower nightmares the same would apply, that said my current 2H Axe is literally half the attack power of my normal 2H sword so don’t really want to push too far and can just keep renown farming as I am.
but yeah, by the looks of it it shouldn’t really take long to get one from 0-10 even if it is a handicap playing with a trash weapon
Edit: my second dungeon got me from 6 to 8, this grind is very quick. practically capped already
