Barb is really strong in PvP. I tried telling people and they kept laughing at me before launch because they still thought level 20-25 was representative of end game. Barb has a top tier kit for PvP.
That being said… if you can survive long enough to outlast the shouts and WotB, and that means getting away without using CC since I’ll be unstoppable, you might stand a chance.
If you use your big cooldowns at the right time and disengage, if possible, until I’m on CD with everything, you stand a chance.
Equal gear and level and skill… yeah good luck buddy.
Yeah I’ve got a pretty decent amount of time PvPing at this point and it’s comical how overturned Barb is in PvP.
Have fought level 100 Necros, Sorcs, and Rogues (don’t have much time fighting level 100 Druids) and all felt like it was an actual fight. Barbs above level 80 just one shot you with one ability. Extremely tanky, seems like Perma unstoppable, and a one shot charge attack? Surely some dev just wanted an “I win” class in PvP.
Hopefully something changes, I know PvP is an after thought but… It’s just too blatant.
yea just encountered my first op barbarian in pvp couldnt do a single thing to them i survived like not even 1 second going around with fast mobility one shotting everyone in the zone they seriously need some tuning for pvp because theres not really any point to it when you cant even cash in the shards because second you try there down before it ends to one shot you
PvP should never be considered when balancing is concerned since this is not a PvP game. Every game that has ever tried to balance for PvP has destroyed PvE.
I think it was a colossal mistake for Blizzard to introduce PvP in this game. The only way PvP balance works is if the game is PvP only.
“really strong” is an understatement. There are 0 counters to an actual level 100 geared hota shout barb that isn’t inept.
Yea but what’s 92% dmg reduction when the barb is doing 5-20mil per hit and the player only has 6-18k hp range.
Also let’s be honest…the pvp zone is more pve than it is pvp. It’s got the highest monster density in the game with the highest monster spawn rate which means the most amount of loot per hour and that’s not even factoring in dust gambling.
If a game has pvp it IS a pvp game.
I planned to play HotA Barb before the game even launched specifically because I thought it was the clear cut PvP king. I was correct.
They really can’t even fix it honestly. It would involve breaking the class for PvE. The entire class revolves around buffs and one attack that’s then super buffed.
Sure, Rogue has a great kit when you look at it. Lots of versatility, tons of unstoppable, great synergy… but that comes at a cost. I do one thing extraordinarily well - smash things with the hammer. You can dart around, go invisible, lay traps… doesn’t matter. You’d be better off with only one attack and everything else just buffing that.
They’d have to remove shouts from the game or completely disable their secondary effects attained through synergies in the skill tree. It would break the whole class.
Any time an enemy pops a big cooldown I just walk away for a second, then come back in when they’re done. Ice block? BRB. Earthen Bulwark? Ehh, I’ll smash a couple hammers on you and see if it works if not I’ll save my fury. Decrepify? Lol I’m unstoppable who cares?

I mean yeah it sucks when it’s not balanced but it was pretty clear from the start that would be the case.

LOL this is one of the most ignorant things i’ve ever read. You’re just someone who’s part of the problem who’ll just create a multitude of new problems with that mindset.
My man… the developers openly stated PvP will not be balanced. This is not a PvP game in their mind. They gave all the indicators that this would be the case. I personally wanted to PvP as a main aspect of my experience… so I chose accordingly. Why is it ignorant to play the game within the framework set by the devs?
Others listened to the devs say these things, ignored them, then came here to cry about the fact that another spec is unbeatable in PvP and that it should be nerfed… which is a thing they specifically said they wouldn’t do based on PvP.

Idk, I played some PVP today with HOTA and as a level 100 against other level 100s my record is fairly even. Had a rogue basically oneshot me even with challenging shout up at 14k life and 8k base armor and a storm druid with 200 movespeed kite me for 10 minutes.
You guys run into melee range, use your cds like barb is a mob then act surprised when it does not work.
You should never beat a melee in melee range. Learn to kite, and get good.
Casting druid, sorc and necro, all tried to bloodlust me melee range and use their aoe skills thinking that would work in pvp.

Pretty much the games industry as is right now solely because people like you are happy to eat up the sh*t.
This is a child’s perspective. One class or spec is always going to be the best. That goes for every game whether it’s PvP or PvE. If you want the BEST spec, then yeah roll a Barb right now. But that’s not to say people aren’t having fun as Rogues or Druids. I’ve seen many which are doing quite well and do give barbs a run for their money. But only one can really be beat and consensus seems to be that it’s barbarian.
Now since you care so much and you’re so wrapped up in it, then the answer for YOU is go roll a barb. I run with Druids and Rogues and a Necro who are having quite a bit of fun and doing just fine because they don’t need to be the number one spec to be happy in this side feature of the game.
If you need that, then chase after the flavor of the month and stop crying on the forums about it.
Your attitude is so unnecessarily negative. If someone disagrees with you, it’s not always because they have flawed logic. They just have different priorities. You’re making it clear that you want balanced PvP.
Why did you buy a game where the developers told you ahead of time that the PvP would not be balanced and that it was a secondary feature which they would not balance the game around?

I’m an Arc Lash Sorc, I AM a melee character. And also have about as much close quarters damage reduction as I possibility can get.
HOTA still one shots me through Ice armor. Which means I can only attack with Flame shield up?
But who cares just reroll Barb and be apart of the problem right?
you have a choice to be melee or not, barb does not. Barb should still win.
Blizzard doesn’t specify PvP is the red headed step child on the website or the trailers. I picked up this game because it has PvP because I prefer competitive fights over NPC simulated responses. Guess the community could care less about balance and I’ll likely drop this game when Barbs are the only thing that exists in PvP (because fighting all the only classes is still fun)
It’s just pathetic to hear things like I rolled Barb for the unfair edge or yeah we know it’s stupid overpowered but it’s my class so I don’t care. Clearly you’re the type of person that uses bumpers while bowling so you can get more points lmao.
It’s really not that hard to introduce balances for PvP is restricted to certain maps. The maps themselves could act as a debuffer, which they alrdy do for D4. They just didn’t give it more than 10 seconds of thought on how to go about it.
Pvp is an absolute joke and needs to be fixed
