Back to hydra I go

I started the season playing hydra but it was putting me to sleep. After getting an uber amulet drop from an UC+bargain run I went CL.

I’m running Rox’s CL build and I must say that I am enjoying it. Lots of fun. My gear is pretty much perfect with the correct tempers and all orange MW’s.

I’m P246 and have been fooling around with the different powers to see the variances in mob executes in the pits. My 5 glyphs are at 90 with my highest attempt and clear being a Pit 95. 110+ is the goal… 100+ seems definitely within reach.

I’ve been stockpiling random ancestral gear + mythics and yesterday for whatever reason I decided to give hydra another try. I rolled up another sorc… leveled up to 60 in a couple hours and went with Rox’s burning hydra build. I ran a different crit variant the first time around. This one claims to be more of a pit pushing boss melting version with a Pit 114 clear and that’s what I want.

I have most of the gear I need and now have to MW everything and level up the glyphs again. I ran a Pit 20 and then a Pit 55 and unlocked T4 already.

I am pretty sure I’m gonna get farther with hydra being the meta and all… but CL is definitely no slouch. Still… I’m excited about pushing both builds and will share a video when we get closer to the end of the season.

Rox… if you’re reading this… thanks for the solid build options!

Burn is good for very high pit push and Lurkin’s original was burn that I leveled up with. Since you rolled an alt try Mekuna’s hydrakuna also w/ your armory. The armory is separate for each character. I alternate between hydrakuna and Roxy’s CL. I also have a meteor build that I hardly ever play.

LOL I totally forgot about the armory because I’ve never used it. So you’re telling me I didn’t need to roll another sorc? I was just trying to avoid the hassle of gear swapping and spec changing but I’m sure the armor makes that a non-issue.

I originally played Lurkin’s “Crit Hydra - Hawk Tuah” build and as said now running Rox’s.

Not gonna lie… I don’t find hydra as fun/immersive as CL… but it’s not putting me to sleep anymore at least.

Will have a look at Mekuna’s build too. Thanks for the tip.

I wanted to play another character and since already had a Hydra Sorc, gearing the CL was pretty easy. The two aren’t nearly comparable though damage-wise and running 20 levels less Pits was such a comedown that I got the spark and my glyphs to 50ish and then ended up just deleting it.

I can’t bring myself to play Druid. I’ve created a few and they just look so ugly that I end up not even getting past the character creation screen. Tried SB on HC and it proved way too squishy. Both my Rogues (Azure PS and TB) and my Lunging Barb were so weak next to my Hydra Sorc I think that I’m about done for this season and I’ve yet to quit one before the bitter, bitter end.
The game loses a lot with the terrible balancing.

Man the armory is one of the best features of the game. Up to five builds. Just remember to pull the runes when switching. After switching you have to manually change your seasonal powers and make sure you have the right runes. I have different runes in my CL and hydra so it’s a one click switch. If they conflict it won’t switch and pulling runes avoids that. The best part is that it saves your skill tree and paragon and you don’t have to re-level glyphs.

I’m hoping the gap is a bit closer than that for mine… being my CL is the one that is currently uber geared and still working on the Hydra build.

Right now my CL sorc takes out T4 Belial in about 3.5 seconds… a little longer for the hydra sorc right now but I have but one glyph right now at 45… the rest just dropped last night.

How little did I know. I looked at the builds and they share 3 of the 5 glyphs so I will probably have a look at the armory tonight… set it all up and then delete the reroll sorc and just run with one and the armory.

Rather level up 2 glyphs and use the 3 that are already 90+.

Most definitely. And level them up w/ you CL girl. Your glyphs will level quickly if you do high enough pits. That’s exactly what I did. Strip your Hydra girl and dump everything in stash. It is shared between all your seasonal characters. Be SURE to save your CL girl in the armory FIRST. Then put your hydra gear on her and redo the skills and paragon. And then put her in the second slot. You can name them whatever you want.

Indeed. I’m starting to see the differences now. Done with CL for this season.

Out of annoyance and aggravation I just salvaged all my CL gear minus the shared items and am all in on Hydra the rest of the season.

I think the last straw not really making any progress past pit 95. I cleared it with glyphs at 85… and with glyphs at 93-95 I made it to the last boss of 98 but missed the timer.

Point being… I MIGHT have been able to clear a 100 with CL… but meh… don’t much care now. Trying to level glyphs from 93-95 to 100 was gonna take forever when you fail 4 out of 5 attempts despite having 25-50% chances. Hell I was failing 4 out of 5 at 70%. Seems weighted towards failure.

Bye CL. It was fun.

Edit:
Looks like I’m gonna roll with Mekuna’s build for now. There’s just one glyph that is different from my CL build… and a lot of the same gear (boots with evade CDR) etc I can use for the mobility much like CL.

Edit II:

I tried it… and it’s pretty sick. The exact same instaport playstyle as CL except using BL… with a lot more dps thanks to the hydra.

It’s a winner… and with that said I’m rolling with it till the end of the season which will most likely be my last. 4 seasons of the same rinse/repeat boss powers is enough for me to move on to something else.

It’s been a while since I played Sorc. So this CL build that can clear Pit 95 is WITHOUT any bugs or exploits?

What about the Hydra build that can clear Pit 115? This is also WITHOUT any bugs or exploits?

Sorry I moved to SB already after being annoyed how Combustion and Burn in general was weak from S0 to S6 (probably S7 too but didn’t play 7).

Hydra was strong in S0 and S1 due to bug in scaling dmg in NM dungeons.

There are no bugs in these builds. They are just overtunned.

In the next season (S10), Hydra will be nerfed (but thanks to the seasonal powers it will probably do Pit 150).

The Azurewrath is also very strong on its own. In the patch notes it says it has a bug with attack speed, but I never seen anywhere this being mentioned in the CL build.

Overtuned meaning the multiplicative numbers are too high?

Yes… I cleared pit 95 with CL without bugs and exploits. My gear was premium with all the correct tempers/MWs. Pushing beyond 95 was a struggle though.

The hydra build I’m running now uses 5 of the 6 glyphs that I did with CL… so I’m only having to level one… (conjurer) I cleared a 95 last night in 4 minutes. It was taking 10+ minutes with CL. Again… no bugs or exploits.

I haven’t attempted beyond a 95 yet because I’m working on the MWing for the pieces of gear I had to change out when I swapped builds. Once I get there and get my glyphs capped I’m pretty confident I’ll be doing 110-115.

CL is good… but hydra is much better. I think the biggest problem was I started the season with the wrong hydra build… and I found it quite boring. After swapping to CL and adopting the instaport playstyle and then swapping to this hydra build that is essentially the same… I’m enjoying it a lot more.

Yeah, Serpentine Aspect gives up to 1.5% damage per mana point when cast, this value will be reduced to 0.5% next season.

Azurewrath is more complex than just 1 multiplier. But to be honest, for the amount of gear you need to get the build running, it’s power doesn’t feel out of place.

Yeah I wouldn’t say either one of them is OP… but having played both hydra is noticeably better.

4 of my glyphs are 92-95 with the one I had to level up currently at 84. I’m gonna cap these… finish my MWing and then push for the 115. We’ll see how it goes.

Either way… I think I’m skipping S10.

Why? Getting gear will be harder, but the build variety and power will sky-rocket.

I am gonna be hopping among D4 S10, PoE 2 0.3.0 and Borderland 4 for this last 3 months of the year.

Been here 4 seasons straight… I’ve had fun… but it will be another season of rehashed powers with a garbage economy/trading so it’s time to move on.

Prepare for the nerf in season 10.

For some reason AS was adding to LH damage. And it’s been that way for quite a while which is why we stack AS on CL. They fixed the bug in S10.

Yeah I read something about that yesterday. Not the reason I’m taking a break but still worth mentioning…

Edit:

I’m out now. To hell with the end of the season. I capped my glyphs and cleared a Pit 105… but getting the last 3 pieces of gear triple crit MW proved to be enough of an aggravation that rather than break my laptop screen I deleted my character and uninstalled.

Last 3 pieces (all legendary with 5 affixes) I burned thru 160k obductite… 4500 souls and who knows how many other mats and didn’t get the triple. Having +5 heads twice instead of +6 heads is pretty huge… and I just don’t care enough to farm up more mats.

Probably could have done 110+ but I’ll never know. D4 was fun… but there’s also a lot of annoyances in this game and I’m not playing another rinse/repeat season of power with more of the same pit pushing endgame.

Meh. Ciao.
