Seems my experience is the opposite of others. The patches that break their systems, fix mine and the ones that fix their systems, beak mine. Ever since server slam, every other patch it seems causes crashes every 5 minutes on my desktop. 1.0.3 and 1.0.3a worked just fine for me…no issues at all. 1.0.4 crashes every 5 minutes. Tried all the usual things, disable chroma effects, cap FPS to 60, drop textures to high, update to the latest Nvidia drivers, etc.

Can you try windowed mode non fullscreen? That is the only thing that stopped the crashing. Had crashing consistently ever since the beta when they removed exclusive fullscreen. So far so good even on 1.04 but I’m still annoyed
I have alot of freezes since 1.0.4
And the old problem for many ppl - CPU goes crazy in towns
Yes. I though I fixed the crashing issue by following the suggestions, e.g modify setting file, new driver, delete Cache… It works for a week. Now, the new HotFix just starts to crash again. Well Done, Blizzard. I will study more to fix this crashing. I wil be a IT expert before you can fix the crashing.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I just tried it and it still crashes in windowed mode non fullscreen.
What’s strange, is my laptop doesn’t have any issues at all. Lower specs, and it doesn’t look as good, but doesn’t crash…I have played on it for about 6 hours straight now.

beta was fantastic - 6 hours no problem, and it’s been getting worse sense relase. 1.0.3 was ok, could play for several hours. Now i’m lucky if I get through a single dungeon.
I’ve also disabled rBar in bios.

next time you crash, copy and paste the last 20 or so lines from the FenrisDebug.txt found in your d4 folder
Sure, here you go. The last 20 lines don’t provide much besides the Fenris dump params:

I found some info by typing access violation diablo 4 in Google but I can’t post links. Looks like there is some conflicting software or bad installation of d4. Try disabling some services, repair or reinstall d4. Try a different hard drive to install to as well .
Same here. Patch 1.0.3 seemed to have made the game a bit more stable for me, as I was getting less Crashes to Desktop. But after patch 1.0.4, I’m getting more random crashes. It can happen in town or while exploring the map. FenrisDebug states the same “Access Violation (c0000005)”.
This is a copy paste that I found helps some people. Who knows, maybe it’ll help you.
Disable Hardware Acceleration (In the battlenet launcher settings)
Open: C:\Users\USER\OneDrive\Documents\Diablo IV (USER will be whatever name is used on your computer) and open the file LocalPrefs.txt Then edit the line:
DisableChromaEffects “0”
to look like:
DisableChromaEffects “1”
Open the in-game settings and set the following:
Socal> Cross-Network Play (off)
Socal> Cross-Network Communications (off)
Graphics> NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency (Enabled or Enabled+Boost) (Or whatever says low latency)
Set all shadow qualities to off, or low as possible.
Set Refractions to off, or low as possible
If you use fullscreen, make sure the resolution, and Resolution Percent is set exactly to the same as your desktop.
Graphics> Display (set to Windowed)
Turn DLSS on.
The most common problem is due to overlays.
Same here. I had my best day of play prior to the fix that went out late on Thursday. When the new patch went out, my game went to crap again and became unplayable with crashes every 5 to 10 minutes.

Thanks for your help. I have already done all of these steps and more. Also not running any overlays or background apps, only got the game running. I have opened a ticket with blizz. Hope it gets sorted out before season starts.
Ahh, that sucks. You may be stuck till the next patch. This is my setup, and I have almost no issues at all:
CPU: 12th Gen I5-12600k
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX3060
RAM: 128 GB
VRAM: 12129 MB
For me it says on dxdiag: Page File 30281MB used, 108756MB available. Perhaps D4 needs 64 MB of ram to function properly.
Well, here I am again…last patch, zero crashes…this patch 1.1.0.43487 back to crashing every 5 minutes. There is certainly enough of a pattern here for them to find something I would think. Do they have 2 different compile environments or something? It is every other patch that crashes…

I have the same problem, game crash after 5-10 min. In low game crashes anyway. Please help.
The hell you are right mate. I was crashing every ~30 mins since S1 patch. Last patch seems to have fixed it, i’ve been playing for +4hours straight. So yeah, it seems the fixes for many people breaks the game for many others, thats hilarious.
P.D. As i suggested to many other people that was having constant crashes in S1 patch, i really encourage you not to stress your brain up trying to do acrobatics to fix it up. The game is just broken. If it’s easy and fast fixes, ok, you lose nothing trying. But complex fixes like underclocking, disabling some stuff, reinstalling drivers, windows, game…it’s not worth. Believe me, it doesn’t work for the majority, i’ve been almost a week reading dozens of threads and fixes doesn’t work for most people. Game is broken in many ways sadly.
P.D.2. It seems that in reddit (that was full of reports since minute one of S1 patch), there’s literally 0 crashing problems RN, at least sorting them with the “crash” word. Anyways is too soon.
I really hope that info helps someone.
+1 for the constant crashing with this patch.
AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Nvidia 3070Ti
32GB ram
I’ve tried:
- Numerous combinations of in game settings (windowed, fullscreen windowed, DLSS On/Off, resolution lower, detail lower, etc, etc)
- Updating Nvidia drivers
- Clean remove/reinstall of Nvidia drivers
- Clean install of Diablo
- Clean Windows install
- Undervolting my GPU
- Closing all other programs
This is the only game I have this problem with. So frustrating.
I can’t even play HC anymore as the game crashes so regularly.
