Auto move? I want less/zero mouse clicks to move

I’m seeing folks do an auto-move like movement in videos and can’t replicate it - with one exception. I can set a key like ‘W’ for force move, then holding down, character will follow my cursor.
I don’t want to hold a key down. I would expect ‘Auto-move’ to do what it says, but doesn’t seem to work for me. I set Auto-Move to middle mouse button, I would expect from that point forward for character to follow my cursor - but character just seems to run in a straight line indefinitely at the point you clicked auto-move. Huh? That is not what I would expect .

What am I doing wrong, or how can I set this up? Left clicking (PC + keyboard gamer) is SUPER annoying, yes I’ve read about WASD not being supported (major bummer) - would love suggestions thanks.

Edit - yes, have controller on order, but I’m a keyboard PC gamer. Yuck. Would hate to have to do that only for this basic movement essential. thx for comments

Use a controller? My friend switched to controller and says it’s much easier on the hands.

Thx @tatsumakijim - I have one on order coming tomorrow, thinking that would be last alternative, I really don’t like controllers but meh will give it a go. If anyone knows how to do what I want with keyboard though I’d be a mighty happy camper.

it depends on the class i would say, i recently started a TB rogue, and damn, it feels so much better with a controller.

um… Just hold down left click LOL

Thx @brink - lol, of course, but that is what I’m saying I DON’T want to do. Damn, even clicking left click for movement within an hour my finger is exhausted. Holding left click down? Forgettabout it. Like 5 minutes I’ll through my mouse into the wall.

Some mouses like Razer’s allow you to set your left click to toggle mode. Maybe it could help

id be careful on that. im not quite sure, but doesnt that belong in the “macro” category? i might be super wrong tho.

its really time for you to get that controller then =P

I believe you can pick Auto-Move in the options. Go to options then controls then key bindings and then scroll down a bit and there should be an entry for auto-move.

The description for the key bind says, “Moves the player in the direction they’re facing/towards the cursor until interrupted.”

was considering a controller, hands are getting sore after long hours.

Any controller recommendation?

Auto-Move behaves like its described and is actually very useful.

You move in a direction and you keep running until you hit something. Your character will do slight path finding around some obstacles as normal.

This means you can open the map and keep moving, or move stuff around in your inventory and keep moving, or mouse over tooltips and read them while you keep moving, or type in chat while moving.

Auto-Move is a toggle. When you turn it on any other movement commands continue until ‘interrupted.’

Personally I don’t like clicking a bunch either. So I put force move on the spacebar. This allows my left thumb to control movement while left hand fingers do skills and such. Right hand doesn’t click at all, except on chest and stuff. Right hand just moves the mouse for aiming.

Yea, right; was also thinking that. Use that function for the auto move key.

Ok, maybe not a good thing to macro. Idk how it works, only just glossed it over. Always playing on a controller.

Get ps5, best one cause of the d-pad layout which let’s you kinda claw it without moving the thumb from the stick.
I use it with DS4Windows program. It’s easy and good.
Also, stay out of trouble and have perfect holidays.

Sounds efficient, which is very important when running this marathon.

Maybe. But reasonably no one would do anything about a guy macroing to hold down a key. What if he’s disabled?
I kept macro on D3 because keep clicking was too burdening. Told so on the forum too as I got angrier about how the game was developing. Officially they’re against it but I don’t think it’s too easy getting at hardware like that. What’s the difference to the program if he’s holding manually or if the hardware is holding? Can’t see it on inputs and I’m thinking that even if they can get to the system and check what’s going on there idk if that’s actually legal. But disregarding that, is it useful to ban a guy that is having hardware to hold down one key? I don’t think so. Everyone has that kind of hardware also.

If you know anyone that works for Microsoft you can get an Xbox Elite 2 for a pretty steep discount.

Sir, ermmmm are you working in microsoft?

Not an Xbox controller. The build quality is seriously lacking these days. I’ve gone through 6 of those damn things in 3 years just from normal wear and tear. Every single time between 3 months to a year drift will become an issue and/or one or more of the buttons will become unresponsive. That’s if it doesn’t arrive broken. Had two arrive broken and had to immediately return for a new one.

I used to be only keyboard+mouse for these kinds of games until a dumb genetic thing makes it too hard on my hands now. Controller support was so, so, so much better than I thought it would be and I have had a great time with it - I’m excited for you to try it because your fingies deserve a break lol

you can bind move to your scroll wheel and just roll you wheel instead.

Ok, thank you all very much for the input. I bought a cheapie ($19) controller from amazon, arrived this morning, and was plug and play. I admit, it is amazing and totally this is the way to go. Shame though, I love wasd and full keyboard but meh.
