Australia: unplayable latency spikes

Edit: Originally posted under PC general discussion, but hoping for wider exposure/may be a globalised issue across all consoles for Australian players, so I figured I’d post under technical support as well.
Also, before I get bombarded with “that’s the point of this weekend” replies - I know. I’m not outright complaining, as much as starting a thread SPECIFICALLY for Australian players, to see if it is a localised issue and if so, hopefully draw some attention for the devs to consider Oceanic servers (not likely… But worth a shot?)

I’m averaging in game latency of anything between 800-1900msec. The highest I’ve seen is 1978msec. Very rarely I’ll get a downward spike and average between 250-500 (which is still unplayable, but less so?), but most the time I’m averaging easily around 1000, which is clearly unplayable.
Symptoms of this are obviously huge lag and rubber banding.

I have run 3x different net speed tests before posting this:

  1. 338.4 Mbps down / 41 ms ping
  2. 305.4 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up
  3. 349.6 Mbps down / 13.5 Mbps up / 14 ms ping
Australia may have poor overall internet speeds, but as you can see, my speeds aren’t the issue.

I know this is not a hardware issue either (happy to provide pc specs but it’s definitely not my hardware lol). NVIDIA in-game overlay shows render latency averaging around 2-10.5ms and FPS between 90-130. I have experimented with lowering graphic settings, trying DLSS etc.
This is purely a server issue.

The reason for starting a new thread on this, is that there is clearly hundreds++ players out there able to play and progress to level 20 (given all the threads crying about Ashava lol). At latency like this, the game IS unplayable, so I’d bet my last dollar those gamers aren’t Aussie/Oceanic.

If anyone else from Australia is having the same issue, please reply to this, hopefully with enough traction we can show it as a localised issue and garner attention from the devs (maybe?).
Alternatively if you’re Australian and playing just fine, also throw down? At least that way, I can feel bad that I’m just sh** out of luck.

I’m playing out of Brisbane and don’t seem to have had this issue. Most mine jumps to is 150 however usually sits at around 30-40. Might sound stupid but try playing through a VPN if you have one, see if it changes.

Also playing in Australia and having latency issues
The opening cinematic froze up which is… unusual and didn’t happen in the last beta

Every time I portal to Kyovashad I get disconnected (which also means I lose my TP every time)
The lag when switching instances can be pretty intense too
Also with things like chests that create waves of mobs, some challenge chests have a big lag spike when a new wave spawns so I can’t move and take a bunch of damage.

The previous beta didn’t have these issues with this intensity.

Unsure if lag related but on the unyielding flesh quest, the mysterious woman ran away, but also stayed standing infront and the quest didn’t update, had to abandon it and restart it.

Hey i’m having the same problems, this happened in the last beta test and i only ever had small windows of playtime with no lag but this time it’s just repeating.

Hey mate,

Im in Perth and played beta 1, 2 and server slam. My latency in all three was 100-200. My internet isn’t the best(NBN - FTTN with 30down etc). I am on PC.

I was thinking of downloading diablo 3 just to see what the lag is like.
I know Aus has servers based in Sydney which fall under the Americas region, so anyone on the east coast shoulnt have more than 50msec latency.

Correct - however Betas and Test realms (PTRs) are usually run from California USA. That may result in latency and issues that would not be seen in a Live game release. That applies to all Blizzards games.

MissCheetah, I have always seen your green posts since early D3 years. Are you also based in Aus? Thanks for your comment, so its most likely we were running through the actual USA servers for this server slam and not local ones, hence the increased latency.

No, I am East Coast US. I did not have any latency issues or DCs this Server Slam. I am sure my connection was not as good as someone who is West Coast.

I had just wanted to share that all test servers that I am aware of are done in California and it most certainly causes latency issues for folks in the EU, SEA, etc.

The Tech MVP who is ANZ based is Bluspacecow when he is around, although he mostly pops into WoW threads.
