Audio distortion when too much going on

In short, whenever is too much going on on-screen (e.g., lots of enemies and abilities firing off, most noticeably when playing with others), the audio gets severely distorted and stutters, as if there is no audio buffer.

It is 100% reproduceable on my machine. The rest of the game does not have to be lagging any more than it usually does on my potato, and the audio issue will always happen when enough things are happening in-game. Easiest way to repeat it is to get a friend or two and find a reasonably large group of enemies (most world-events qualify).

I’m on a lower-end PC (specs below), so I’m sure it’s related to that, but I’m still above the minimum specs.

Lenovo Y50-70 Laptop (~9 year old model)
Intel(R) Core™ i7-4700HQ CPU
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M (2GB VRAM, 4GB shared, 6GB total)
8 GB system RAM
Samsung SSD 850 EVO drive
Windows 10 Home (64-bit)

I had the same issues anytime engaging packs of enemies 10-15+ that seemed like the game couldn’t handle playing that many hitsounds at once. I was playing rouge with flurry build so it was a pretty constant barrage on my eardrums of the game audio cutting in and out until enough enemies died.

I am having this issue on my sorcerer and even worse on my necromancer. This issue is happening even on the PS5 and I wouldn’t be surprised on the Xbox as well.

For my issue on the necromancer, using the legendary power to make Blood Mist trigger Corpse Explosion with Blighted Corpse Explosion can cause massive amounts of audio issues. The more corpses that get consumed by this in a short span of time, the worse it gets. This is even worse with more players on screen.

I have this issue as well on my laptop.

Same! Terrible new audio issues after expansion, also only when a lot is going on, eg combat.
