Players are able to attack me in the Fields of Hatred even though I am not blood marked. If this is expected behaviour so be it. But that is not what I have read online.

This is not a bug, you are in a PvP area, doesnt matter if you are bloodmarked or not, players who are bloodmarked can attack anyone in there so yes its expected behaviour
Why even have blood marked functionality at all?
It’s so you can open the chests in the PVP area.
