Attack speed breakpoints?

Really blizz? This is a thing? This is not something made obvious through gameplay, so how is anyone except people who play fairly religiously supposed to find this out? I assumed i just hit the limits of my build, but no, i find this out. Were you guys ever planning on letting people know that you are wasting attack speed bonuses after certain points until you hit the next breakpoint?

Depends on attack. So no, they won’t release it.

FYI - attack speed caps at 100% natively, excluding temporary bonuses such as Frenzy. That temporary attack speed also caps at 100% - so you could get 200%.

Yeah I really don’t understand how this is a thing, when gameplay can and should be detached from animation frames in this the year of our lort 2024. Why is +x% actually still NOT +x%!!??

Maxroll got all the numbers on it.

Google attack speed breakpoints.

Discovering things in games like these is what makes them fun in part.

Im okay with how it is now IF they would mention that more of a stat is only effective if you hit a certain amount. Add it to the tooltip or something:

ā€œAttack speed affects how fast you swing your weapon. Speeds above 90% are only effective at 110%,140%, 170% and 200%ā€.

Just something so you know that you know to not add more of a dead stat to hit 100% only to find out that with buffs that raise speed above 100%, they actually do nothing now

there you go. i mean, we are talking about absolute fine tuning here after all. Its not like you are losing massive amounts of damage if you dont hit a attack speed breakpoint.

But the fact that there is no intuitive guide ingame to realize it is my gripe. One affix overbudget isnt a big deal, but it is annoying

Just cap it and you wont have to worry about breakpoints.

Most games do not tell you what various stat related break points are and require you to figure it out yourself

ā€œNot having enough of a certain stat between certain points makes some of it uselessā€.

Thats just bad game design. Yes, stat break points are something that everyone will consider vs simply concluding that their build is just at its limit. This is a conclusion that everyone just simply realizes, that you dont have enough of a stat to achieve a certain number of frames to get 1-2 extra attacks.

Its not even intuitive to let you know that this is a possible issue. Most people arent thinking ā€œam i within a certain framerate for my attacks?ā€

i mean… yea… every game should explain every detail on every mechanic ^^

dont get me wrong, but we are really talking about min maxing here - personally i think thats something people do that use the internet ^^

I guess im just a minority in trying to figure out crap on my own

or… you can ask here ^^ i mean come on, forums can be used for more than complains ^^

many people know a lot here

why do you think the responsibility lies with Blizzard?

Any combat game has attack speed breakpoint, this is part of the programming in attack animation and not suppose to be a concerned for regular players. Of course there are some grinder who try get the data from this part of the hidden mechanic to their advantage. There is nothing Blizzard can do as they can not include all information of a skill in the tooltip without making them look like a full page encyclopedia

I used to played Dota 2 and always do animation cancelling to improve the attack speed, but that is a competitive PVP game, it is different from Diablo 4.

Just relax and play the game, don’t overthinking on this casual game. This is not an e-sport.

Because its their game? The average player isnt thinking ā€œis my attack speed coinciding with framerateā€?

You wont get MVP status on forums being a bootlicker, just FYI

has Blizzard ever released something like, ā€˜You need 22 marines as the breaking point to counter an enemy base with a+b+c defenses’ for its Starcraft franchise? or was it the players who figured it out by playing the game?
why become a sucker that needs to be spoon-fed? just FYI.

Yes, this is actually something that everyone who plays games like this knows. No, it isn’t bad game design. The tooltip tells you what the max attack speed bonus is. Figuring out the breakpoints has always been left to guides.
