Its getting really frustrating.
Not only is 70+ frustrating trying to find mobs your level, but almost every drop is level 60 gear. Is there a reason for this?
Even when I use Obols, level 60 gear, all the time.

Because you’re not on WT4
All Sacred items are capped at level 60. It has no relationship to the power of the item.
yes i am. Ive been there since 70.
Because the devs probably spent about 30 seconds thinking about items and their attributes when making the game.
“Hey know what will be fun and super fake complicated? If we make items with stats like 10% damage resist if you are under water, upside down, with 3 arms and a platypus biting your ankle.”
Ha PoE take that ! We know how to make things complex !
Nobody will care if the items are 20 levels below thier current character level because they won’t be bothered to read the stats anyway !
Drops are still locked somewhat to mob level, you will see an increase in ancestral garbage after a while. At least that was my experience.
Because it’s one of the ways they artificially extend play time statistics.
Ancestral does not start droping from obols until level 73.
Also never look at required level, only item power
The ancestral starts to really drop(still pretty sparse) when you’re like 75. Eventually, they’ll make up like 75% of the dropped items in terms of ilvl. Lvl 80 is deemed the ancestral min lvl, though if an ancestral drops for your toon before hand, you can still equip it with the min lvl at which you got it.
Im not 100% sure what the formula was, but you could kind of get an idea of it with the old vendor system, which showcased items which could be ancestral(or sacred at lower levels). I HEARD it was only graphical, and didnt actually work this way, BUT when you’re 72ish, you might have only seen ONE item at a time show as ancestral, and then as you leveled, you began seeing 2…3…4…5… etc. until they were ALL marked as ancestral. They “fixed” this though after like week 4, and I believe looks all standard now, presumably with a sliver of a chance to get ancestral when you’re 72ish.
Itemization is definitely a convoluted system though, and probably the biggest issue they need to rework.
It’s pretty standard in diablo games. In Diablo 2, you get normal and exceptional items most of the time. Sometimes elite items. Tho the difference is some of those normal and exceptional uniques are BiS or at least really good. So that’s the real issue with D4. No interesting items. And interesting items don’t span the levels. I mean, you can get a tal’s amulet in the 20s in D2. BiS MF farming gear for endgame. You can get a Stone of Jordan in Act 1 nightmare – the best ring in the game.
If that’s the case why am I getting level 60 item power 600 drops in nightmare tier 61 against level 120 mobs🤦🏿‍♂️
Because the entire loot system is garbage. Might be bugged, capped by devs, working as intended, or its just that…
Honestly cant tell anymore with this game
Drops don’t get any better even when you’ve maxed out all your glyphs and are doing tier 70+ NMDs. Do yourself a favor and just stop playing - move on, find a better game.
Because D4 bad…DUH
/20 chars
In D3 once you reach max level 70 all the gear that drops is level 70.
Yeah that’s more of an arcade game tho. Diablo 2 is the main title, and Diablo 1 is much more like that too. Diablo 2 spawned an entire genera, which also reflects these same dynamics. D3, while a fun standalone game, isn’t really much part of that imo.
I remember when D3 started out, a magic users damage was determined by the damage of the weapon they carried. So basically this meant you wanted to get the biggest 2H weapon you could to make your spells hit harder.
Not sure if it stayed that way because I quit within a month, but that was a big fat nope for me.
D4 had me fooled all the way until the single player campaign ended at 50. Then I started to see the shallowness behind the curtain.
