When dismantling Ancestral Gear at the blacksmith, if the Ancestral Gear you dismantle upgrades the Aspect in your Codex, you cannot upgrade the Aspect again unless it is another Ancestral Gear.
For example: I obtained Ancestral Gloves with Duelist’s Aspect (increase Ferocity stacks by 1-5) with a roll of 3. When I dismantle this gear, I will have the Duelist’s Aspect with a roll of 3 in my Codex. If I obtain a Non-Ancestral Gear with the Duelist’s Aspect with a roll of 4 or 5, and I dismantle this gear to upgrade my Codex. It will not upgrade it. It will only upgrade the Codex if it was Ancestral. I have tested this with multiple pieces of gear and unfortunately 3 of my Aspects are now locked behind Ancestral gear which can be difficult to obtain considering I need a Ancestral gear and an upgraded version of my Aspect.
