First, I have an imprinted Aspect (did not have a chance to test it on the original item) that says: “Basic Skills grant 25% Damage Reduction for 4 seconds.” Since there’s no way to show damage taken on my character besides trying to gauge the depletion of my health orb, I can’t say for certain whether it’s working or not, but it definitely doesn’t look like my health depletes a quarter slower. (Yes I am using a basic skill to activate it.) The buff icon that appears after using a Basic skill even says it’s reducing damage by 0%, so maybe that’s what is actually happening instead of 25%.
Next, I just killed The Butcher and got a sick drop of Rapid Scorchblade. The Aspect on this says “Basic Skills gain 58% Attack Speed.” And yup… my basic skills aren’t happening any faster. Tested out of combat and on an enemy; my casts are the same speed.
I’m on a Necromancer using Reap to test these bonuses and I’ve actually noticed that the 30% Attack Speed bonus from the Enhanced Reap passive does nothing to make Reap swing faster too. Is “Attack Speed” and “Basic Skill Attack Speed” different stats? There is only Attack Speed listed in the Offensive Stat section of the character sheet.
EDIT: Noticed that my 3rd aspect that says “Critical Strikes with Core Skills increase Attack Speed by 40%” isn’t working either. I see the crit happen, I gain the buff, but there’s no discernible difference in combat speed. Does that attack speed only relate to using Core Skills? This is confusing…

I saw the same issue with Reap not benefitting from attack speed increases.
I tested 2 weapons, one with 1.0 attack speed and no attack speed benefits, and another with 1.0 attack speed and the “Basic skills gain 54% attack speed” legendary affix. I’m not allowed to post links, but the result was clear: Reap gained no speed at all, while Bone Splinters very obviously gained attack speed.
I also tested Decompose, and it does not gain attack speed benefits either. That may be intentional due to being a channelled skill, but I hope not, because it’d be a pretty poor experience to get an effect that says “basic skills gain [a lot of] attack speed” and then your basic skill intentionally gains no attack speed.

I agree that if attack speed is selective about what benefits from it, that’s not going to be a fun experience and my enthusiasm for this game will shoot down hard. If that is intentional, even to not have channels benefit from attack speed, I’m going to further be annoyed if they end up being lazy and not having that information in game and expecting us to visit 3rd-party websites for clarification. Right now, I absolutely love the tooltips in the stat menu. I don’t want hidden mechanics or exceptions to bonuses.

I have the same issue. I have the "Basic Skills grant 25% Damage Reduction for 4 seconds.” aspect on one of my items and the buff icon says 0%
I’m using decompose as my basic attack, so IDK whether I could expect a speed increase anyway from an aspect.
Blizz, pls fix! I love this game so far.

This seems to still be an issue even on full release. I have that “Basic skills gain % increased attack speed” while attacking with Arc Lash but I’m actually swining with the same damned speed whether I have the Gloves with said Aspect equipped or not - what gives?

I am seeing the same thing, I’m using Frenzy and Whirlwind. I’m using “Accelerating Aspect” which is supposed to increase my attack speed by 50% (using it on a 2-handed weapon). When it procs, I can see the buff icon appearing, but I don’t attack any faster.
The same thing seems to be happening for “Wind Striker Aspect” for movement speed, however there I don’t even see a buff icon appearing when it should proc.
