There’s a pretty dense cloud in the Arpg genre sky, some of it created by Blizzard and the “Diablo-like” games and some provocations by GGG like the “bosses won’t just be bigger versions of elites”.
I understand the rivalry between the companies, but why is there so much passion and toxicity amongst fans?
I have my own opinion on the topic too, specifically on why people seem to cheer for D4 to be beaten down badly, but I really would like to hear from others

Because gamers are generally tribalistic morons?
A lot of people in this generation have a huge need for external validation, far more than in the past. I won’t play internet psychiatrist more than that. But it infects everything, gaming sports, POLITICS. It’s exasperated by the media, the internet and politicians pushing tribalism non stop. You either agree with me or you are a moron / evil incarnate / literally Hitler.

I agree, i honestly would like to play both games. Im a long time Diablo player, never into POE until what i saw from the new poe 2 trailer. I may not be that into it when it comes out, we will see.
The only thing i am peeved at is the unprofessionalism displayed by the director of Diablo who i think should resign. He is an embarrassment to himself.

Incorrect. It’s because mine is better than yours and you’re delusional if you disagree.

Interestingly I noticed that there is almost none of this online toxic crap with the Last Epoch community. They are a joy to deal with.

That’s pretty much a short version of what I said.

Blizzard is famous for it’s toxic fanbase for a reason.

Because it’s bad for all the reasons many of us have been saying for quite some time now and Blizzard didn’t care. I suppose it’s the “I told you so”.

This is all part of the media show people do, I pay no attention to it, A good game sells itself for someone like me. sometimes i cave, i fall for it, when i let my hobby addiction or retail therapy make the choice to buy.
So we will see, no game is perfect, and no doubt they will have work to do also, however it’s a new toy and the honeymoon period will likely last a good while.
But I ignore interent game jouralism now, it’s not worth it for me, I know what I like and find too much putting games down, negative news if you will, is just silly for my taste.
I got better things to do than get caught up in it, even forums are too much sometimes.
So yeah, I think that was a low blow, tbh and unnecessary, but people be weird right.

Yep, I’m pretty much on board with this take. People seem to feel ignored and now they want some kind of gaming revenge

And that, again, goes back to the director. The difference is their director listens to their community.

There are no dark clouds looming overhead. The next month is poised to be the best in the history of ARPGs. All of the rhetoric is just salt from hardcore D4 fans.

The salt isnt toward POE though.

Because people have lost the ability to really be civil and communicate with each other.
A persons opinion is the only one that matters and there’s really no consequence for being uncivil and just generally mean if or when you disagree.
Our public (media) has also made this commonplace, from calling people hitler to fascist and making fun of individuals by giving them nicknames etc.
We are toxic because that’s how brain washing works for a good amount of the populace.

Thats the reason why Subo is not fond of people

I see much hate actually coming from “ex-Diablo fans” let’s say towards Diablo. PoE / GGG is just captilizing on it.
Yes it’s definitely the D4 fans making all the D4 hate threads. What’s the weather like on your planet?

PoE2 wont compete with D4. Different market share.
PoE2 is more direct competition to LE. Yes there will be a ton of D4 players that will try out PoE2 but when they realize its not a casual game they wont stay.
