I feel like soon enough barbarian will end up with a best build being using basic attacks sooner than later, I play WW barb (yeah I like it, and don’t care if you say it is crap) and my crits range all the way from 50k to 400k, skill is level 9, weapons, rings and amulet have the best attributes possible/wanted for it, and my basic attack range from 80k to 120k with no direct focus on it (lvl 1 skill and all), I’m already seriously inclined to try a build just to see how far it can go, I personaly believe the only thing missing for it to become a thing is the aspect “your basic attacks have x% chance to spread.”, as soon as it comes up we are doomed.
I love Frenzy builds and will undoubtedly push one to the absolute maximum (within my means) once I get all the gear, glyphs, paragon, and levels I need. I feel like Lunging will just go right along with it, amazingly.
It will be done, boys.
Frenzy basic is a beast. No million point hits but it is consistent. You can stack allot of defense easily with battle trance and might giving you 60% Damage reduction right there.
It can be done.
I’ve though about this and would enchant gear for basic attack dmg, but… already spent millions rerolling core dmg on weapons.
I’m saving 790+ item power weapons with top tier Basic Skills rolls. I have perfect rolls (79%) on both 2H slots. I have plans! I’m not sure if I want to share the plans now for help/ideas, or if I should just post the build once I’ve finished… if it works. Lol
Unless the the supposed big patch does something… don’t waste your time.
I’ve tried barbarian basic builds. It “works” in the sense that you can clear content that is not too far above your level, but it takes probably 5-10x as long as any other build. That’s with full 805+ weapons and topazes and +Basic Attack damage rolls.
It’s just slow and weak. The frenzy tankiness sounds nice until you realize that taking so long to kill enemies and having to stand still while you do it just make you end up taking more damage in the long run. Even with all that stuff, the core skills still hit harder.
Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade. I wish it worked better myself.
Yeah, as-is it’s pretty far-fetched to make it viable. I haven’t fully tested it yet, but a level 7 Frenzy with 350%+ Basic Skills damage wasn’t even showing 10k flat damage on the tree. That’s not very promising. We’re going to need some giant multipliers and some new skill interactions or aspects to make it worth a damn.
I’ll keep pushing it as I gather all the things.
I don’t see how it can, high tier NM you can’t stand around basic attacking for too long. Damage and AOE isn’t there. Druids basic attack build just has better Uniques for it.

We don’t really have anything other than Battle Trance for basic skills, and it’s not build defining in any way.
We need splash/aoe, utility (pull/stun), and some super fat multipliers.
Battle trance is a amu slot, and amu slot is +50% legendary effect.
The slot is simply to valueable, that battle trance as item can be good.
The uniq amu need twice to three times the power, to challenge a rare amu with perfect rolled legendary slotted for your build.
I agree. The Basic Skill damage needs to be higher, as does the attack speed increase. Cooldown should be a fixed stat as well.
What would really ‘fix’ frenzy is for the stacks to count down one at a time instead of losing them all at once.
It would make a miss weaving frenzy into a rotation allot less punishing.
I have been working on a frenzy build where full fury dump Kick is the spender.
I saw someone on YouTube testing a frenzy build, though he was doing it in the 50s while mine is starting from level one.
I did an event outside of Kov and when the Elite showed up I kicked him so hard I am pretty sure he whined on Twitter about it.
I LOVE kick. It’s a perfect spender for Encroaching Wrath during supreme wrath of the berserker.
Ult, kick, death blow, build fury, kick, death blow. Don’t forget that kicks give berserk and vulnerable…
I have a defensive thorns build, and that second death blow crits for 1.6m
I’ve had that 2nd kick hit for 600K. It’s definitely an under utilized skill.
Well, they reduced the cooldown of Kick, so maybe you can get a good flow going with this now? How are you building Fury? Are Kick and Death Blow your only two damage dealers? Might want to try WA and IM with this now. Could be dope if you can spam IM all day.
Doing some napkin math, with a proper Walking Arensal/Swap build IM should be down to about a 25-30 second CD, which honestly isn’t bad at all if it’s still a screen wiping ult like it was in Beta (that’s the last time I messed around with it).
Makes me wanna try a LS/HoTA/Deathblow build but I’m currently too broke as hell to reroll my Barb
This is on my thorns barbarian.
Kick is indeed my only spender. Bash is my basic, using 2 hander. I use an umbral ring for fury gen. Needleflare, tough as nails, hamstring ensure everything around me is slowed so umbral fills me up quick enough, especially during WotB.
Most stuff dies on my thorns, but it’s nice to have the WotB, kick, deathblow combo for dangerous elites and bosses.
You could definitely make it work (probably even better) in a non thorns build as I have allot of aspects and affixes tied to my thorns.
You can get it to 36 seconds with just 2x 10% cdr rolls. A well-placed Ground Stomp can shave 6-10 seconds off of that, and then you get 1 sec each time you swap weapons. I tried this briefly a bit ago, when the cooldown was 60 seconds, and I was able to cast IM every 15-20 seconds or so. It could be much better now.
Wtf is “Bounding Slam”, guys? I assumed that was the 2H bludgeon attack for IM, but I don’t think it is. Patch notes say it went from 75% to 112%. Anybody know what that is? EDIT: it’s the damn mount skill. 50% increase to our mount attack…
