Are they adding campaign difficulty levels with the expansion?

For both expansion/base campaign? Sorry if it’s been asked, really enjoyed the campaign, endless helltides not so much, would love to play higher campaign difficulties hardcore.

Yes, it needs to be adressed at last. My original playthrough experience (I enjoyed the story and discovering the world) was ruined by lack of difficulty. I unintentionally became a god halfway through by doing side quests. It felt like fighting paperbags.

You’ll find out tomorrow, but it has been implied that the new difficulty system will let you dynamically choose the level of challenge for all content.

thanks for the response, is there a dev interview or article somewhere that references that? Not sure what happened 4 days ago.

Normal, Hard, and Expert will be the three difficulties available from level 1. Penitent starts at level 50. Torment levels start after completing the appropriate Pit Tier.

So probably not exactly what you’re asking for, but expert should make it slightly more difficult. We’ll see in the PTR.

thanks! That’s probably a little better like you said, but not really the old setup where you could beat normal, then start nightmare act 1 at level 40 etc. I’m not entirely sure why they won’t do that, it feels like one of those “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” situations. They could still do end game the exact same way. :person_shrugging:

Level 50

I do wish they would do that, but you will be able to beat the game and then move up to penitent to tackle the endgame stuff.

Yeah I understand, just for me beating the higher difficulties on hardcore was endgame. Each run was fun and interesting because of the relatively short amount of time invested. Greater rifts + helltides get old fast for me.

When I hit end game after release and realized it was just helltides and one boss at 100 I just stopped playing. Mechanics and atmosphere are great in d4, it just doesn’t have the gameplay I’m looking for.

You are absolutely correct, changed it, thank you.

Yeah, but since then they’ve improved both of those (NMDs more so in S6 with the shift to MW mats), they’ve added 2 new good game modes, and they are adding 2 more in the expansion (or one more if you hate co-op). They are also adding the progression of getting to T1, T2, etc. It really is a much more content-packed experience now.

Interesting, do the unique game modes bring back any of the unique encounters from the story?

What really struck me was that there were so many cool encounters when playing campaign, but you play them once and never see them again.

Yeah, it’s a shame that they haven’t created like a digest version of the campaign that lets you play back through a series of major encounters. But still, the new modes do have their own cool moments. Undercity sounds like it will be cool too.
