Playing Zork feels reminiscent of the old witch doctor in Diablo 3, venturing into Act 2 only to be instantly one-shotted. It leads me to question if something is amiss in the gameplay.
Not bugged, just useless. Stack int if you want more resistances, but really just go armor for survivability.
In order for resistances to “officially” be bugged blizzard would have to admit it. They will not do that.
Resistances in D4 are mega creepy…
When I put off my helmet with 50 fire resi, I have 47% instead of 51% in my char screen… uhm… what?
Think the actual answer is something like resistances are in buckets, so resist on gear only affects the bucket it is in and then on top of that in WT4 there is a flat 40% reduction to all resists.
wudijo did a great video on that, showing the math behind it.
so basicly all resistences vs a certain dmg type are trash.
you want to get the real dmg reduction, reduction vs close and far away enemies
But this is stupid…
Resistances were always able to reduce damage in the diablo franchise…
So, it’s a bug in my opinion.
It’s working perfectly as intended.
It’s just the intention is trash.
Elemental Resistances only work on 30% of the damage you receive, the rest “goes through”. Well, another 30% is mitigated by armour and the rest (40%) is impossible to resist.
That is, in WT4, in WT3 only 20% is resist ignoring making elemental resists work on 40% of the damage received.
Outside of the WT resist ignore which IMHO isn’t implemented well since there’s basically no way to counter it, the armour split is the main reason the whole thing falls appart.
But why aren’t we able to cap resists to 75% like in D2?
Why do I get 4% resist when I put on a helmet with 50% res?
Because of diminishing returns. The more you add, the less it increases and that diminishing returns hit hard real fast. Do not get any resistance on gear and don’t fish for it on the paragon board, your neck and rings alone will gives you enough of it to hit the breakpoint where Diminishing returns renders it practically useless to add any more resistances.
Armor is in a much better state and doesn’t DR nearly as fast while simultaneously working on 60% of physical damage and 30% of magical damage. For end game nightmare tier, just look for straight damage reduction, no way around it.
Can you tell me pls what is the breakpoint?
What is the “goal” I should achieve for resists? 50?
The goal is just don’t get any. Like I said, the guaranteed resist on neck and rings are enough. Because resistances value is just that low that 20% from necklace makes the extra resistances on gear worthless.
