Hi,
I finally convinced my wife to play the game during the Beta and she was enjoying it until the first cave passthrough when the spiders showed up. Heard her scream from the other room and then a flurry of curses were thrown at me. I love that the monsters are meant to freak you out at some point, but similarly, it really sucks that a single monster type would stop someone from playing the entirety of the game.
Arachnophobia is so common, is there ANY CHANCE of creating a filter where the spiders/spiderlike-monsters are replaced with something less disabling for people like that? I would love for them to enjoy the game with the rest of us.
Such a drastic request, but I’m sure it would welcome so many more people to play. Maybe not, but at least some. I’ve been playing Diablo games since '98 and I really want to share this world with my wife…

They would need to have filters for most everything in the game because someone will be triggered by something.
You should know that spiders are in Diablo games. What next a filter for demons because some people are afraid of demons?

I’m afraid to tell you that there are a lot more spiders in other zones. Fractured Peaks probably has the least of them.

I have Arachnophobia too but only with real spiders. I don’t know how many people have an arachnophobia that extends to in-game spiders but I doubt it’s enough people to justify creating an entire setting.

TBF, spiders are real, just not the ones in video games. However, phobias aren’t usually rational.

I can understand getting freaked out by spiders and I can even understand being creeped out by spiders in games, but I will never understand how someone can be so bothered by spiders that they would refuse to play a game they would enjoy otherwise. Worst case scenario, just avoid doing spider dungeons that aren’t required. You can go and do the required ones for her.

I’d just be like, “oh, yeah. Lets kill these icky things.” I’m just a little creeped out by real life spiders.

Yeh seems like it would be cathartic getting to murder them en masse

When I see a wolf spider murdering a grasshopper, I’m like, good for you, bro. But spiders with venom that’s lethal to humans must perish.

Highly unlikely. But nothing is impossible! Some people want naked harpes, other people want unicorns and carebears. You just never know haha.
Considering the level of effort, it seems unlikely to do a niche thing like that. Theyll probably target something with larger impact like class balancing, more expansions, a 6th character etc.
If you can get it to go viral, I’m sure anything is possible in 2023. People don’t even need to understand it to support a cause.

Filters won’t solve your real problem. Driving on the highway and your oil light comes on, pull the fuse out?
If my wife swore at me about something like this, we’d be going for a long hike and never playing videogames again

I’m generally live and let live until they enter my personal bubble. Except jumping spiders. They are adorable.

Brown Recluse or Black Widow in my house = dead.

Oh yeah, I meant spiders in general. I would definitely take out those two.

Put on some really dark sunglasses.
Was curious on how many spiders there are on average in a home and got this answer.
" On average, 61.84 spiders can be found per home. There is probably a spider within reach of you right now. The global average spider density stands at about 131 spiders per square meter. Some habitats, like deserts and tundra, are home to fewer spiders."
With that many spiders they must be hiding well, guess they count the ones inside walls as I very rarely spot a spider in my home.

Do these harpies also offer boss weapons?
They may be long lost friends.
I have it too, op.
But it doesn’t bother me in games like this.
Hey, just don’t let her play Satisfactory. Those ones really can creep me out.
