Apply Chill > Cold Damage?

Hi there,

I was wondering if applying “Chill” effect was a form of Cold damage.
(When using “Frostbolt” in “Masteries”)

Keep in mind that i never played sorceress seriously on D4 as of yet just experimenting,
Thanks in advance.

Edit : Here is my rezoning;

Meteor With Frost Bolt Mastery;
Under the [Ultimate Tree]
→ Permafrost
→ Hoarfrost
–>Frigid Breeze
–>Icy Touch

You see where im going with this ?

So technically speaking;
Having Frost Bolt Mastery + Hoarfrost = 9%x Damage to Chilled Enemies,

Chill is the effect that cold damage applies and you can stack a 3% cold damage buff up to 15% and slows them. The more chill will lead to frozen. Chill itself doesn’t do damage.

Hey Wix

Appreciate your reply,
Let pretend that i use “Meteor” with the “Mastery Frost Bolt” will it somehow proc as Cold damage due to the Mastery.

Or will it only do Fire damage and applying Chill + Burning Effect

Thanks in advance :slight_smile:

Yes it will and visa versa. Cold skills can apply burning via the firebolt mastery. It’s a good idea to have both in your build somehow because there are lots of passives and paragon modifiers that add/reduce damage to/from cold/burning enemies.

Can you be more specific on what will do what :sweat_smile:

Want to see fun? Make a lightning sorc and use the frost bolt and fire bolt enchantments. Then stack all damage modifiers for all fire, cold and lightning. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Edit: If you have any extra skill points put them in firebolt as it will increase the enchantment damage. If you would prefer enemies frozen more, add them to frostbolt as it increases the chill %.

Very interesting not gonna lie lol

The Frostbolt enchantment only adds a chill % on direct hits. It doesn’t act as a Frostbolt and should not trigger Frostbolt upgrades. The only thing that affects it directly is your Frostbolt level to add a higher chill percentage.

Your meteor won’t become Frost damage, but it will apply the Chilled status on every hit on a non boss enemy. Chill isn’t damage, but you can increaee your damage and reduction against chilled targets.

As such, a Meteor won’t bocome a Frost skill and should not trigger Permafrost. It woule benefit from Hoarfrost though, but not Icy Touch or Frigid Breeze.

The same reasonning goes with Burning damage from Firebolt enchantment. Your Lightning and Frost spells won’t become Fire spells (and thus won’t benefit from +Fire nodes other than on the burning damage itself), but they will trigger the Burning Effect with each hit (if they can hit). A Frost or Lightning sorcerer could then benefit from damage reduction against Burning or from Damage vs burning nodes.

I run a Blizz/Spikes build.

Enchantments:
Ice Shards (no brainer)
Fireball, just an absolute beast for clearing packs. Severely underrated in my opinion.

At this point, there’s no sense or reason trying to push sorcerer until they address him and bring him up to speed with the rest so I just use him for 40-45 NM’s, Helltides and open world fun. Packs just melt like crazy.

From what I could gather, Fireball enchantment only really melts if you are in lower NM level (sub NM50 or so) so that white trash can die from it, or at least be severely damaged by it. I could be wrong though.

Unless Fireball hits for 500k+, at higher tiers, the explosion won’t cut it against 1M+ Health trash and it should not trigger a really potent chain reaction even with a burning build.

Honestly, sub NM50 and on the open world / Helltides, almost any decently thought combination of skills can kill mobs.

With my hydras / Firewall build, I simply throw an hydra or two and a firewall and the pack will die in a few seconds while I’m already jumping on another pack, and so on.

Fireball is pretty effective at low level when the Fireball hit usually one shot every mob around, starting a chain reaction if a few even survived. At higher level, I don’t know how Fireball fares as a spell. If it can usually hit for 500k or so against vulnerable targets, the enchant could be very strong at clearing densely packed mobs.

Oh yeah for sure.

That’s what my last paragraph was about. Sorcerer is not hitting higher tier NM’s like the other classes and I not someone who likes to beat their head against the wall attempting to do so. Until they fix it, it’s just a world mobbing, fun class. The minute you try to do more, you’ll just be frustrated.

You can spend a month grinding Sorcerer to get all the best gear out there with super rolls and then watch a video of any other class with half the rolls on gear easily doing what Sorcerer struggles with. So until then, I am enjoying obliterating packs lol.

Good luck!

Yeah, it’s quite disappointing to see how most classes have a couple of viable endgame builds, while we can beat Uber Lilith fast with a tailored Blizzard build only, or spend 10-15 mins per try being punished with every small mistake you do.

NM100 is another game entirely and while I’m not actively looking around for clear speed videos, I don’t think any Sorcerer build can clear it as safely and as quickly as the FOTM Druids and Necromancers builds do (and maybe Rogues, I don’t know).

I can probably clear NM100 (as I cleared 99), but it takes time (over 25 minutes) and map cherry picking.

I agree.

I pushed every class passed 40 and 3 to 70+ with Sorcerer being highest at 84. In the end the game is horribly unbalanced at the moment. With that being said. Sorcerer just has the funnest “feel” if you will. I just wanted to level them all to a point to have some valid opinions and knew Seasons were a reboot for leveling so didn’t feel the need to get a 100. Kudos to you and others, it’s a feat no doubt.

I’ll rock a hundo Season 1 and am leaning towards Sorcerer. There are just way too many allllllll aboard complaints about its ability to do what other classes are doing so I imagine it’s finally getting a unique that will make it crazy and some buffs to address his/her survivability.

Regardless, I also knew this would be a steaming pile or horse manure when it released in terms of content and balance so I’m just waiting it out. Live Service is just a fancy way to say, we are gonna milk one game for years so strap in lol.

Nonetheless, good chat brother!

Good luck out there!!!
