Like the non-campaign zones added to D3…do you think that’s why he’s being so unceremoniously shoved into the game?
I feel like it has to be that. You don’t introduce what was a major boss in d3 and be all like, “this is just something extra that we brought out of nowhere. enjoy it!”
I mean I’ll take it and be cool with it, but it just shows how fractured and degenerate the story really is. I’d have taken a belial story over all the akarat chanting of the one-armed girl.
But in the end a boss is a boss and I need to do more boss runs in general so I can’t say it’s not good to have him?
I doubt they are axin him. They Just dont give a dann about the Lore or Franchise.
Lets face IT. Belial IS known but Not that important. ITS Marketing nothing more.
He IS Just sacrificed for bucks.
Since D4 IS this massiv Project i knew WE would See belial and azmodan again. I Just hoped IT would all be better executet. But D4 IS dissapointing a Lot, this IS Just another layer of disapointment added.
Fun fact. Belial was the biggest wtf Moment in D3 for me as i did Not expected His final Form to be presentatef Like that.
Yea it does feel odd to just randomly add Belial in as an after-thought Lair Boss. Granted he is a Lesser Evil, not a Prime Evil, but still, getting the same treatment as Dury in this game, at least you fought Andy in the campaign. The only Lesser Evil we’re missing is Azmodan.
I don’t even know who that is, why not give us mephisto? Literally throw in a mob that has nothing to do with the story when you left VoH with everyone wanting mephisto… Another failed opportunity imo
god people are speculating way too much.
All newly added bosses should be accompanied with some kind of story driven cinematics attached to their initial inclusion into the game. These cinematics should play the first time you encounter each boss each new season (skippable by choice of course). It would not need to be a long drawn out cinematic, just something to introduce them and explain why the hell they’re suddenly showing up in D4.
little bit offtopic… and the best speculation
at the “end” of d4 we have to fight all known bosses from the past as a special endfight… 10 years and a bunch of expansion packs later

Duriel is literally just some random monster that shows up in a hallway in this game, there was no story or anything for him either. at least andariel got some lines of story. but even that was pretty anti climatic in the end.
so just throwing in Belial, which yes is kinda weird storywise, is par for the course here.
still wondering why astaroth did not get some endgame refight somewhere, i liked his design.
Well when you’re right you’re right, but I guess in my defense when hasn’t duriel just been some monster that punctuates a chapter, without ever getting into what his actual deal is, like, at all?
I remember him as a boss in d2, but can’t for the life of me tell you what he was about. It’s almost as if this game has never really given two craps about the story.
Maybe a coincidence but Duriel was added in vanilla S2, Andariel in vanilla S4, Belial in VoH S8 (3rd season) so following this pattern we might see Azmodan in S9-10 (4th / 5th season again). I hope they don’t forget him…
Yeah in D2 as far as I can remember, Duriel and Andariel are just sort of there - pretty much how Diablo was in D1 (although there was at least some backstory as to why, though he seems content just to muck around a basement.)
D3 at least gave Azmodan and Belial some background and agency. D4 has reverted to Andy and Durpy as pretty much just being goons. (“Are you looking for BAAALLLL???”)
Yeah we all get that baal is the lord of destruction and killing him will really make a difference.
But everything that leads up to him is just some monster that you should kill for loot. Andariel gets to be edgy because in some versions you can see . . . things.
Just saying I remember that about d1 that I was like “if these graphics were better you guys would not be getting away with this.”
or maybe season 16? ![]()
i would say probably to your initial question though. maybe mephisto was one expansion and they decided to stretch him out over multiples, leaving no expansion for a lesser evil.
i am curious when the mephisto story will continue tho… like 4th quarter and a mini expansion? so a major exp starting the story, then a couple season content, then a mini expansion to finish the story before the new one starts?
