Where do you get that though?
Diablo made a billion alone in microtransactions.
That doesnt include the sales of the game or expansions.
The also had already sold 666 million dollars in copies of the game a year ago…
So we are talking about at least three billion dollars?
How much do you guess it cost to make?
How is that not profitable or considered profitable.
Its worse than that. They managed to take D3 content and make it worse. Blizzard was a company that released something when it was ready. They were a company that took good ideas and made them better. They were a company that set the standard.
All this says is that Blizzard is fully committed to the arts of corporate-mancy and their games are being made for whales rather than gamers.
150 million = a billion now? Oh my.
How many people are coming back for the expansion after they sold all those copies? How many people are buying the next one after seeing how lackluster and cut short the campaign of this one is?
Name will only go so far before people feel burned enough to realize that this isn’t Blizzard North.
Yes. This is all Rod Turdgusson’s fault honestly. He needs to go. Changing of the guard is in order. Shake up the leadership. Pull a “Reaper of Souls” with Diablo 4 and make SURE that the NEXT EXPANSION is AMAZING like RoS was. Anything short of that will be a massive failure.
Nope. This break up has been going on for 10 years. D4 was just a hook up for some fun but realizing it wouldn’t really work out.
Unfortunately the game is run by Corporates who have no interest in playing the game only how much cash they can milk from the dedicated & loyal. Staff get cut and limited resources, recently, was put into SB development. They are way behind on fixing things now, especially due to all the time spent on fixing the server crashes.
They dangle carrots for next season and even then nothing new and innovative. Class balance I felt was heading in the right direction then VOH happened. Content creators, who know the game inside-out, scratch their heads with some of the proposed “fixes” for the PTR and then the corporates trot out lines like “we respect players time” as if season’s 1-5 don’t count.
While I hope a rabbit gets pulled out of a hat a lot of players are going to need something definitive, innovative, unique and mythical. We want the game we know D4 can be.
Show us the road map for the next 5 seasons. Get us to “buy-in” with our hearts cause at the moment I don’t think the players feel like we are being heard…more like being “played”
Hate to tell you this but GGG has not been indie for a long time, and is owned by Chinas largest IT company Tencent.
GGG wasn’t even mentioned in his comment.
Now if you wanna talk Indie companies that are doing it better than D4, just look at Eleventh hour games with Last Epoch.
Personally, I think it’s an ego problem—refusing to acknowledge the success of past games and being unwilling to bring old classes into the expansion. They’ve created a beautiful open world, yet the endgame loop revolves around Pits, Infernal Hoards, Dark Citadel, Undercity, and Nightmare Dungeons. I get that they want to make their own mark, but in my opinion, the best version of Diablo 4 would bring all the classic Diablo classes into its open-world system. Playing multiple classes each season and experimenting with different builds would make the experience far more enjoyable.
