Anyone else running a build with out ultimates?

Most of my battles don’t last even last too long, and because of that….

I have absolutely no reason to spec an ultimate. I found this out in the beta, and it’s holding true all the way to level 72 - maxing my skill points, and still no need for shadow clone with my shadow twisting blades build.

Matter of factly, because of no ultimates and absolutely no points even spent in that tier, it helps double / triple down on other skills which makes me even that more lethal for skills I use more often.

Anyone else come to that conclusion?
Am I missing out?

I still kill the butcher (for my level) in less than 20 seconds. Like the moment I even use a shadow clone mobs and enemies are dead and then I have to wait a minute to use it again?

The only reason to use an ultimate would be to try and maintain 100% uptime of unstoppable in post level 50 NM because of the non stop chain CC’s. I don’t run one on my level 100 pen shot rogue and because of that I can’t push real hard.

The Barrage build does not use an ultimate skill either. When I first realized that I was a little shocked, as my first character was a HoTA Barb, and the ultimate skill there was definitely required. But it seems to be working, once I got some actual vulnerability damage on my crossbow.

what are you running instead of an ult? poison trap? i’ve been considering ditching clone on my shadow blades build but tbh it comes in very handy running WT4 ~lvl 70 - sometimes you just need that unstoppable and double damage button to mow through a particularly dense pack of elites and mobs.

when Grasp of Shadow dropped for me, I was so excited… till I discovered how much the clone from that ability sucks lol.

depends… when im in lazy mode i pick death trap… if not im twisted blades spam on insane attackspeeds ;p

what ult are you talking about? Shadow Clone?
It is not possible to get 100% uptime with that. Realistically you run that for damage

I do not run an ultimate.

I run: Conceal + All 3 Imbuements + Rapid Fire + Puncture

In earlier levels I ran: Dash + Dark Shroud + Void Imbue + Poison Imbue
This build did not have unstoppable though unfortunately.

As I got better I relied less on Dark Shroud and the Dash crutch.

This build DESTROYS. AoE + Crowd Control + Single Target. Dummy good.

Conceal is awesome it feels like an ultimate

You’re right I forgot I stopped playing TB after the nerf. Shadow Clone + Shadow Step used to allow you almost 100% uptime between the two skills. Not anymore.

I do not run one as pen shot rogue. Maybe I would run rain of arrows if it was actually good, but generally speaking the ultimates have far too high a cooldown to really “use” in a build (unless you have twisting blades for cd reset), because you will be running into packs of monsters faster than your ultimate can recharge, which means you need to focus on the rest of your build, meaning you aren’t buffing your ultimate as much, vicious cycle until it stops being useful.

Dash, shadow step, shadow imbue, conseal.

Pretty much everything is ready to go by next fight. My thought was if I use these skills the most I don’t want to spend points on things I rarely use. I also eliminate “trap damage, ultimate damage” attributes from gear to narrow down what is used.

The build: poison imbue, conceal, dash, shadow step, puncture, twisting blades.

Key aspect: uncanny treachery (grants stealth for 4 seconds every time you dash or shadow step)

Key talent: mending obscurity (heals you for 9% of your max health per second in stealth)

Combining that talent and that aspect gives you infinite health. I don’t even remember the last time I used a health pot, and I farm nightmare dungeons over 20 levels higher than I am

thx to you they will now make the skill tree in a way that will force you to get 1 skill per cluster. Exemple, you wont be able to skill any skills pass weapon mastery if you dint put 1 point in a skill of that cluster. 1 ability per cluster. GG

The trap rogue I am playing uses Death Trap to reset CDs. And lucky hit to reset death trap.

You will need it. With my rouge I run NM dungeons 10 levels ahead of my level. I am currently level 80 running NM dungeons with mobs level 90. Still get through with ease, but you get the occasionally group of mobs that can overwhelm you, that’s when you need it.

But yea, i don’t understand the reasoning

Not every skills has to be useful all the time

I run Shadow Clone, and it’s great to burst down single entities - that includes players, and the 4 seconds unstoppable can be great in a clutch both in PvE and PvP (when i’m not going up against a 1 hit wonder genius farming lower world tiers)

Most of the time i don’t need it, but when i do i’d be cruely missing it

And if some people have great results with builds that don’t slot an ultimate, then great, that means builds are flexible contrary to the “all builds are the same” copy pasta that goes on these forums
