Anyone else notice...when you push ESC while playing D4

to pause the game…like when you need to answer an important call, break up your kids fight, get the Uber Eats at the door, or other real world stuff…

…that the game does not freeze in place. That is, the monsters continue to attack you and you will die while in the “ESC”-state.

By design? If so, different from D3. Not sure whether its better or worse…

Thoughts?

you are in the d3 version of a public game, not private. the open world cant pause just for you

in the future, teleport back to town would be your best option maybe?

No pause in an online game …

Ah. Good point. You’re right. That’s the ticket.

Dude. So if life happens while I am playing and I can’t stop the game, I’m up the creek without a scabbard.

What you never knew you didn’t want, you don’t want.

always on game, no pausing

Don’t make me take a bite outta you, Donut.

no need for a mid day snack, the game just always on, cannot pause, like an MMO. have to port to town

love it or leave it i guess

Guess I’ll grab a donut at Ye Ol Donut Shoppe in Kyovoshad, then.

Uhhh that’s how a live game with a persistent multiplayer world works.

Yup. I’m the only nail, you’re the 4th hammer. Think I’m getting the point, my good friend.

Punishment for death really isn’t a big deal. Just a 10% repair cost in gold. It would be a much bigger issue if you lost significant gold or exp.

Just hit the T key on your keyboard. Problem solved.

I was also told that unlike D2 online, when you quit this game there is a logout period like most other mmo’s. You do not leave the world instantly.

If you got into a jam in D2, you could quit game quickly and escape. Hardcore chicken hacks were made to do this if your life went below a predetermined threshold. Which why play HC if you are gonna use a chicken hack to survive?! At least I manually cheated death!

Unconfirmed.

Or had to retrieve your body and gear!

So, then, don’t play HC and try to logout unless you are in a safe space. Very good to know.

You think you want a pause button but you don’t. Blizzard knows best.

No, as you were already told. Press T. Still a single button press to get to safety.

“Just quit out of whatever I am doing and have to run all the way back and might not even be an option if I am in the middle of a fight” is not an acceptable solution.
