Anyone else feel overwhelmed by all the stuff it takes to max out your character. I dont know if its just my adhd, but sometimes i just look at everything it takes and it gets to be like" why am i driving myself crazy every season with the same stuff" sorry i had to ask. No trolls please. Serious question
Diablo 4 is the best current example of what not to do in games.
I am the opposite, very underwhelmed. A huge gaming company can do better than this with a room full of Kindergarteners. They aren’t even trying to hide the reused content anymore. Huge disappointment.
Overwhelmed? In diablo 4?? You must mean frustrated, because its only bad RNG (tempering, masterworking, % on the aspects…)
because all of us like some degree of self farm and self abusing.
Wouldn’t say overwhelmed for me, just unmotivated to push myself to grind beyond what I need to do. When I start up a season I pick a leveling build and an end game build. Sometimes that’ll change depending on what aspects, or uniques, etc. that I get and when.
Then I just work toward completing my seasonal objectives. I think it’s best to set goals for yourself within the game though. What is it you personally want to do each season? Do you want to try a new build? See how far you can go in the Pit? Complete seasonal objectives?
Figure out what you want to do first, then just make a loose plan around that.
The biggest problem is that the game explains absolutely nothing. If you don’t read guides or watch videos, you have zero idea how damage or scaling works.
You just see percentage increases on gear or skills, but have no clue what they actually affect or how they’re calculated.
Between master working, tempering, and the boss farm slog I have long since given up maxing out my characters.
Overwhelmed???

I have felt completely underwhelmed. Maybe if there was still a loot hunt or journey/progression I might be fulfilled. To say anything in D4 is overwhelming is a complete misrepresentation of the current state of the game.
Why isn’t anyone ever just whelmed?
Honestly, there is nothing about this game thats overwhelming as its not in depth enough (Fellow ADHD’er here). Overwhelmed, Underwhelmed, Whelmed…this game is so bland and boring. POE 2 can be a bit overwhelming. But thats because there is 1000 different things to do. D4…same thing every season.
It’s a weird feeling of being overwhelmed by that and then underwhelmed by the mechanics and itemization in the game. You’d think it would balance out to just being whelmed, but you just experience the worst of those things concurrently.
The problem I have is they trivialized leveling too much so nothing is of “exploratory impact” nature and everything is about finishing the seasonal quest
Now add to that the 2 most obvious “banes” of playing D4
- double/tripple RNG of item crafting (Imprint + Temper + MW) on most items
- rerunning Pit
Yes, it is overwhelming, cause they included “endgame” (i.e. T1 to T4 unlock) into “baseline” progression
Was never a fan of this, but hey, at least they tried to make it work in S8 for a bit
Not sure what made them go for the “endgame first” route/approach again though, the seasonal mechanic would’ve been a perfect new “toy” to level-experiment with…
Verticality of item upgrading should not be a “gameplay progression” feature
Heck I’d argue should never be a thing and yet that’s what the game (especially endgame/Pit) revolves around (mostly)
IF they make MW optional by making only one “crafting technique” available per item the game will contain much more exploring and much less stacking of “verticality”
Because there is nothing in the game to detract you from the grind; and as each season passes, the grind becomes more and more required to progress through the season journey. We’ve been doing the same EXACT content for 2 years; and the only thing that is considered new is whether or not a tie-dye helltide zone appears, a new boss room is implemented, and another variation of seasonal side powers that are either too strong or too weak is present. This season is just a variation of season 3, but without a timer/traps and a campaign boss to add to the mix.
Guess you never played PoE 1. That can overwhelm. D4? not really. We are 1 week in and my sorc has cleared everything, seasons journey completed 2 days ago, and I decided to try the spriitborn.
D4 is in the casual bracket for ARPGs. My Spiritborn hasnt killed any bosses as I started her 2 days ago. She got 2 Star Duriel’s staff from the season journey cache , and the other boss uniques from the obols dude
, and the other boss uniques from the obols dude .
.
I enjoy the game being casual, but Im a little disappointed boss loot is coming from obols vendor and caches.
Yeah. By overwhelmed, i mean its just too much of a grind every season. Im not overwhelmed by the systems themselves. Im overwhelmed by the gumption to continue doing it for little or no reward
I do get that feeling and i just stop and have a break and comeback next season once i am sure i got all i need from the temporary content and rewards.
If i am happy with a character i made that season i grow them at my own pace on eternal. I prefer not to feel like i need to play and grind to max out before a season ends, if i do great, if i don’t great. I also prefer to play alts over one maxed out, since i want to try the powers with most classes etc. So i am more of a build tinker than a minmaxer.
This stops me from feeling overwhelmed, and if the journey feels that way, I just decide how bad do i really need the thing, and if i really need a new pet, would i just prefer to buy one or get one from battle pass etc, and look even now they have a little competition to win one.
That is my honest answer and how i have dealt with it in the past.
Ty for that <3. Honest answer is much appreciated
Yeah in that we agree. I unlocked hordes around 179p since I didnt know they even existed, ran a couple and seemed as pointless as undercity. We have all these side systems that seem pointless. NMD and pits is really all I needed to complete the season.
