Any plans to make Necromancer Minions viable? Some suggestions

Playing a minion Necromancer has been my favorite since Diablo came out, but it’s always felt weak compared to other builds. My minions just can’t get strong enough, and their damage is way lower.

To make minions much better and easier to play, I think the Raise Skeleton skill should just work automatically, like the Sacrilegious Soul ring. It should make one skeleton every second, and when you have enough, it should automatically make a normal priest to buff them. Also, the +2 to skeleton warriors and mages you get from an item should be a built-in part of the class, and it should be +3 instead, like the amulet does.

The Bone Skeletal Mages are also really bad right now. They hurt themselves and die, so that self-damage needs to go. Their damage should be the same as the Shadow and Cold Mages. You shouldn’t need Bone Spear on your bar if using bone spear Bone mages, and the thing that gives you Fortify should also let you summon a couple more Skeletal Mages.

The Cold Mages could be more fun too. That Coldbringer thing should be removed. Instead, one of the cold mages should have a strong blizzard ability that gets better in the late game. The other cold mage should combine the power to give you Essence and make enemies Vulnerable.

A lot of the special glyphs for minions are also just not good compared to the ones for magic and rare stuff. The glyphs for warriors, mages, and the golem are useless, and nobody uses them. Why are they even in the game if they’re so weak? Blizzard should really look into this. That small damage boost to Reanimation and Skeletal Priest in the last update didn’t help at all.

Right now, you almost have to get The Grandfather sword to do any good damage, but even with that weapon, you can’t go far in the Pit to upgrade your glyphs without help from others. Instead of relying on one rare weapon, you should make a special minion weapon, maybe a scythe, that has the same big damage as the Blade of Zir (like 400% minion damage). This weapon could also give minions cool bonuses, like a chance for each warrior, mage, and golem to attack twice. Also, the Ring of Mendeln needs to work way more often than every 6th attack. Maybe every 3rd attack would be good, and the damage of the ring should be increased too. It would be great to finally have a really strong and fun minion build.

I agree with some of it, you have some good suggestions.

  • But cold mages need to go, many aspacts and ways to boost damage is based around, the different elements/skill types the necromance have… Cold is not one of them. It dose not fit inn.
    They need to be blood or a DOT type.
    Any thing cold based on the necromancer is half assed, and not usable.

  • Minions need a command/attack button. Or ability to bind them too your main attacing skill, and they will enherit some aspect of that skill and attack your target.

  • Minion AI is still bad, need a more pack mentelity and better positoning.

  • Book of the dead, could be improved. As long as sacreficing minions means “gain power” minions will be worse, than other builds. I would rather sacrificing skeletons warriors gives you 30-50 % more mages. That way you can have a pure mage build… and visa versa, and sacrificing the golem give you and other minions survivorbility not damage. Book of the dead should alo be a consept they expand oppon. A type of skill tree. Same goes for other classes an their function. It should not be a dead system.

  • fix minon bugs.

  • due to alot of changes to minions, many are not sure what is suppose to work with minions and what is not… make tool tip on this clear/ unmistakeable.

All of the minion glyphs should apply to all minions, including the golem.

It’s so silly to me that a necromancer with minions is the weakest necro build.
