Any Basic skills improve in s3?

Other classes have basic skills builds in aoe for break all content.
But Barb have weakest basic skills builds.

Basic Skills are largely underwhelming because of their intention. At the very least, they should all be an AoE cleave attack. This makes Fury Generation and Conditional Application way easier to achieve.

Blizzard sort of shot themselves in the foot though because Basic attacks are meant to be spammed to generate resources. They will never be as powerful as Brawling and Weapon Mastery Skills which have Cooldowns and/or Charges. Having them be competitive with Core Skills means there would be no reason to use Core Skills.

If Frenzy let’s say did as much damage as HoTA with the right Aspects and build (or even near it) in an AoE, the Power gain would be astronomical. Not only would you be at full Fury all the time, making things like Seligs make you Immortal, but you can still pick up Power Kick to dump Fury for constant Fury depletion activation mechanics.

It would be great, but I think it is going to be a major redesign to make Basic Skills not Basic.

Basic skills as the primary source of damage might be troublesome to balance. What blizzard can do is make it a niche’ build. Rama kinda helps here but Magnus Opus is a 1h sword making skills selective.

Those new gloves might birth a basics build, maybe?

It’s going to really depend on how long the “mark” last. Something like Ancient Oath is going to be ideal. But Basic skills still suffer from being ONLY single target. Can’t hit more than one monster even if they’re bunched up.

New Basic attacks S3 aspect and unique not only for Barb, it’s for all classes. Barb still have weakest basic attack FUN builds.

  • Paingorgers turn your Basic into an AoE and x200% Basic Attack damage.

  • Adaptability gives you x120% Basic Attack damage over 50% Resource, or additional Resource gain below.

  • The question will be when the Basic Attack damages multiple enemies, does it count as a direct attack and will it snapshot correctly. For example, if you have 2H Bludgeoning assigned to Bash, would the Crit on multiple targets immediately give you Overpower? Would Lunging Strike Crits on multiple enemies give you max Berserking? Frenzy and Flay max stacks? Fury gain from hitting multiple?

It is worded to apply the DAMAGE of your Basic attack to nearby enemies. If this is only the Base Skill I wonder how that gets calculated since Lunging Strike upgrade is x30% multiplicative damage.

Am I the only one that wants Frenzy Barb to be viable?

Frenzy thornes very good primary build. I did it season 2. Not hota damage but nm100? Piece of :birthday:

A lot of things mentioned in this topic I’ve thought of, too. Though some may disagree, I think battle trance should be changed from “frenzy” to “basic skill” that way ALL the basic skills can benefit from it. But who knows? Maybe the devs think that Lunging Strike is already in a good place and building around it would be too unbalanced.

For me though, ever since closed beta my go-to basic skill is Lunging Strike. Since I don’t use a core skill in my barb builds, I rely on it and Deathblow for my damage.
