Getting anxious for D4!
I used the search function and read a few threads on solo play and am still looking for just a little clarity.
I understand I’m going to see other players running around like in Immortal. No problem with this. That’s fine. I accept it and have ZERO problem with this. In fact, I think it’s kind of a fun idea to be running around whatever zone and encounter a group of people fighting something really big and powerful and you join in on the fight to defeat that enemy. Cool!
The question is … will we be able to play the story of the game START TO FINISH solo without ever being required, as in Immortal, to do certain events/tasks/quest in a group or clan or whatever? I keep reading about “world bosses”…
I don’t ever want to be required to be part of a group/clan/warband to complete anything. I want to be able to do the whole game by myself, at my own pace, and not be forced to be part of a group to complete anything. Anything.

Absolutely, zero requirement to party up. You can be 100% sure you will meet other ppl on world bosses and you will work together with them to take down the boss, but there is zero direct interaction required + world bosses are purely optional. You can do whole story alone, reach World Tier 4 and farm to your heart content completely solo.

“So we are not going to support an Offline Mode, but as I said before, nothing in Diablo IV is going to require partying up. You can play Solo, and dungeons are private, and campaign quest areas will remain private.”
“So for me the campaign is really obvious, right? I love the fact that our campaign areas are going to be private, I’m going to play throughout that entire thing solo;”
“The level to which you engage in those connected experiences is still up to you. You can choose to play through the entire game solo — from campaign all the way to end-game — and that will be just as valuable and successful as a way to approach the game, as someone who might choose to group up for the large majority of it.”

Did not see one quest with a required group and from all reports you never will. You may stumble across the chest events in the wild while someone else is doing it. But you can join right in or stand back and just get the rewards if you are within the event map circle . On the flip side people can enter your chest event and either help or just get the reward . It goes both ways.

This has been stressed, emphasized and elaborated on from the beginning by the dev team - you can complete the entire game completely solo. Numerous resources and articles have talked about this.

No problem with the chest example at all. That’s absolutely fine and I think things like this will be fun and enjoyable. I just hope to never encounter “join a group to complete …” I would not dig that at all.
Are you sure? Should I make yet another thread asking the exact same question to be on the safe side?
Excellent. Thanks Nefertiri. This sounds good. And being honest, I’ve not followed much of the development. I’ve only just recently starting digging in to see what I’m going to be getting myself in to
Two please, it’s better than refund posts
About the only thing that might require grouping is the World Boss events, but even then, A) Those are not ‘required’ events, they are just icing on the cake, so to speak. A chance to get some nice loot. B) Some players during the beta’s were able to solo the World Boss.

So far they have said the story and the basic game can be soloed… That being said I would not put it past the dev team to throw a quest or two into the season pass where a group is required because it is concidered “Out side” of “Normal” game play.

I think I remember a few things like that in Immortal that ultimately turned me off from that game.
The only time you will be forced into being with others will be the world bosses, but you won’t need a group or clan. The only reason it was difficult this time was because of the 5 level difference. Other than that, there will just be people running around the world.

This is exactly what world bosses are. 12 people max, no reason to group, just killing a big baddie.
As far as the rest of the game, you will never need to group for anything I am aware of. There will likely be achievements based on grouping, like in D3, but unless you are an obsessive completionist, you don’t need to do them.
I am totally SSF, and have zero concerns.

You can do 100% of the story by yourself. Only thing you really can’t is fields of Hatred and World Bosses, but you don’t have to explicitly party up for this just that others will be there and will interact with things, and thise zones are purely optional.
However, the real problem is when you do events on the world map, jerks you hate will pop in and complete them for you, and there is nothing you can do about it.
The other bad things is you will get a quest to collect x bones, or hearts or whatever, and someone else will be doing the exact same quest but 15-30 seconds ahead of you so the entire zone will be cleared with nothing for you to do but pick up the bounties litering the ground.
Yes, this will be annoying…
