Another interview with Rod 🤷

I found the bugs when i noticed we had a low-life chest and saw the node that gave bonus to shields vs life on the first couple days of playing YOLO style. I dont think bugs that big can get out of beta without wanting them to

2:40 ā€œWe are in a good spot in S6.ā€

That’s why you can’t have high expectations of D4.

I didn’t watch the video but if he did say that in the context I am thinking of, we’ll that’s laughable lol.

The interview is him selling a product, nothing more in all honesty. He’s done interviews with this particular person before and it’s always the same type of questions.

He’ll ask something rather vague for Rod to just talk about in length. To his credit Rod is very good at talking about a particular subject, even when put on the spot. However like any smart person working for a company he won’t address the real issues or even acknowledge them to the point where they make the game look bad.

It’s like a used car salesman, ā€˜Well it’s been in 3 accidents, the engine is completely brand new, and the frame had to be realigned several times, but it still runs just fine.’ That’s the vibe I get out of these interviews.

Not that I don’t understand the nature of the beast I do, but sometimes saying less is better. These interviews aren’t for the current players or even potential new players, they are for the stockholders.

Meanwhile, a very good interview with Jonathan Rogers (while quite long) touches on so many philosophical issues that D4 has. This is why PoE has maintained an upward trajectory for over a decade, whilst D4 will never reach its launch day heights ever again.

I just hope GGG doesn’t get into a different mindset with the potential success they could have with PoE 2. We could easily see another Blizzard North versus current blizzard situation.

You and me both. I grew up with Blizzard games. War2 was their newest one when I started playing back in 1996 as a small child in grade three. Witnessing the spiritual death of one studio I’ve loved for many years was bad enough.

Hah, similar experience with me. I went over to a friend’s house, he had the original WC on his computer and let me play it. I stayed up all night to the point where the sun came up, and his mom came out to the living room where the PC was setup, and asked if I had been up all night. I had no idea, I was just hooked.

I could say it started with Rock N Roll racing but I had no idea the games were made by the same people back then. You never pay attention to that stuff as a kid.

You can watch from the start and yea he even said the other team was working on the DLC even before the main game was launched.
I’m speechless.

We knew that from previous interviews though, even before the base game launched. He told us about the seasonal teams and the expansion team and how each team was actively working on their own respective projects.

You can clearly see that Jonathan Rogers play his game while Rod won’t. He just ā€œlistenedā€ to the streamers and have no clue what to do next.

I’m sure Rod is just doing his job, and he seems like a nice person overall. However, whenever I watch interviews or see Diablo promotions on social media, there feels like a disconnect. Diablo 4 is still a game I enjoy, but calling the expansion a success despite all its problems feels delusional.

If success is measured purely by sales numbers, then sure, it’s a success. But looking at the timing of the release, the expansion dropped just before the launch of another highly anticipated game. Blizzard got our money upfront, then released a mediocre season. Players got frustrated and moved on to the other game, even paying for early access.

Once that other game gets its share of the spotlight, Blizzard will likely step up, fix the issues, and drop another expansion to win us back—and get our money again. In the end, we’re just customers, part of the cycle that fuels their paychecks.

If you want some fun, they have the Lilith Holiday Sweater on sale for $18 from $65 in the blizzard.gear store. I would link it but it’s not a trusted site (cough)

So true. They will ā€œfixā€ all the problems and look who’s back – Mephisto. Get the hype again and repeat.

Let me see.

There ya go.

Hate to say it, this is when I get most of my Blizzard merch. Won’t lie I have a decent amount of shirts and plushies. I never pay full price, there will always be a sale.

My parents wouldn’t let me get away with that, but you bet I’d have done that if I could. I’d spend entire days just playing through the War2 campaign levels.

I’m not sure if you intend to watch that interview I posted, but starting at around 1:05:00 or so (near the end) is a very fascinating bit. It turns out the Spiritborn indirectly influenced PoE 2’s developmental direction quite a lot since July.

I need to sit down and watch these honestly. I still haven’t seen the latest live stream from GGG. I don’t want to set it up as background noise either, because I tend not to pay attention to it, and I really do want to listen to these.
