Andariel? Nah I think I'll Pass

The worst designed boss in this game to me has to be Andariel. Her variant in the campaign is okay mechnically. Maybe a little weak. But her uber form is so far beyond cancerous that medical scholars 200 years from now will look at these mechanics as examples of how to contract visual cancer. Let’s start with just the perimeter. One run you can be 1,000 leagues deep into it and not get roughed up too bad, other times you can just look at it and it instantly 1 shots you. The perimeter of this thing is not clearly defined at all. It looks like it should be just based on a purely visual aesthetic, but the edge has phantom distance to it that seems to toggle on and off at will.

Then there’s the balls of lightning that orbit the arena in the 2nd phase and beyond. Where will one spawn? Who knows. But what I can tell you is that 8 out of 10 times, it’ll be in your butt. It feels like I’m giving birth to my own death. And even when you’re not being screwed over by orb spawn cheese, just like the vortex perimeter they too sometimes have phantom range that will let them still hit you despite the fact that you moved out of their way.

Then there’s the big red rotating shotgun of death. Why does it sometimes decide it’s gonna 1 shot me just for touching it while other times I can have a full blown picnic inside one before the blast comes out?

And let’s not forget about the big red twinkies on the ground that sometimes lets you walk right over it while other times you can’t even leap over it without getting merc’d. I’m sensing a pattern here.

And last but certainly not least, the rotating flaming chain of death. Who thought it was a good idea to have it not only go at the same speed as the giant blood sausage shotgun but also go counter to it’s rotation, putting you in situations where you have literally no choice but to die since when you use a movement ability like say the Barbarian’s leap, you’re not actually leaving the ground, it just looks like it is but your hitbox just rapidly moves fast long the ground, meaning you die trying to jump over it. Remember Leap in Diablo 2 and how it was actually functional to get over obstacles? Yeaaah. Good times.

The only thing good about this boss these days after you guys felt the need to censor her is that she’s so buggy and poorly designed, she actually lives up to her title as the Maiden of Anguish. But she doesn’t even stick around for the fight. She hard phases 3 times before she’s actually allowed to die. Like why? No other boss is like this. And if you’re playing a class/build that uses ANY sort of ground-clutter attack, like say Earthquake or something similar, then my advice is to trade your Andariel keys for Duriel keys and save yourself the headache.

she only has 1 forced phasing.

Seriously, you’re so real for this.

I thought they were moving away from the visual and AoE clutter of D3’s style. Andy is wayyy over the top too much nonsense everywhere.
Very cancerous on the eyes too :eyeglasses: :face_with_peeking_eye: :grimacing:

She had 3 invulnerability states every time I ever fought her. I’ll get her to like 5% and then she’ll go immune and disappear. Then she’ll come back and as soon as she loses like 1% she nopes out again. It’s like the devs designed her to be immune to getting her butt kicked.

Ya’know I tried turning down particle effects and some other settings to help with the clarity of the fight. All it did was trim up the random bells and whistles of the boss mechanics, it didn’t do anything to make it easier to see through my earthquakes lol.

you might be just not quick enough to get her down. she can go in this phase multiple times yea, however, the phase is only forced 1 time.

I think I’m quick enough. I mean maybe pushing her phases too fast bugs her out or something since sometimes her mechanics wont even spawn. Which is another thing I forgot to mention in my OP. Sometimes if you burst her down too fast certain mechanics don’t spawn, then when she come back into the arena you just insta-die, like you get hit with all of it at once.

Is this true? I so want it to be true. :grinning:

I hate Leap and how it works in D4.
D3 did Leap right.

YES! Leap is so janky.
Charge can be poor (especially on Unhindered/Bosses), but Leap takes it to a whole 'nother level.

Everything about Barb is janky in D4 I do not know how they went from the most polished feeling class in D3 to the absolute jankfest of Barb in D4. And on top of that its got broken items every season, broken talents every season, broken skill nodes every season, broken paragon nodes every season, broken aspects every season, broken everything all the time.

Only Sorc comes close to the level of jank that D4 Barb has.

Phase one: take all her health.
Phase two: kill the adds
There is no phase 3

yep, you have to get her down to 80% quick, then wait in a safe spot to finish her off when the lighting starts up. Kinda lame but there you go. Like all bosses in this game, learn the dance moves and your good.

Andariel doesn’t have adds.

You have to destroy the totems around the arena before she’ll re-appear. I don’t know what boss you’re thinking about, but it doesn’t sound like Andariel.

It is true. You can test this yourself. Make a Barbarian then try and Leap over a 1 shot mechanic. It’ll be like flying into a Mosquito at mach speed.

Same with Charge, it’s full on jank, especially against Unhindered/Unstoppable targets like bosses.

At least Charge is supposed to be on the ground.

I really don’t get going from nice, fluid D3 Barbarian to D4 Barbarian. I even dislike how Upheaval plays, because of the odd animation/lock with it.

If you are on t4, dont you have to be way more than 1k armor or you’ll get one shot?

Andy’s easy. Bad players just think it’s ok to tank the aids beam and ignore the obvious “attack this thing” mechanics of the fight.

Skill issue. Bads will always be bad.

Reading comprehension issue. The illiterate will always be illiterate.

I killed her with my undergeared leap quake barb 11 times before I got the mytical amulet, so I could create a shako. My barb hasn’t died once, clearly a skill issue on your part.
