To the script kids running DDoS attacks… you’re not hackers. You’re not even clever. All you’re doing is pissing everyone off who wants to play. A lot of us are upset with Blizzard too. But we’re not throwing a fit and shutting down the game, are we? Grow up and go outside to touch some grass. Or kick rocks. I don’t care which.

Does no one else find it super unusual that someone would set up a DDOS, risk being arrested, all to shut the game down on a Sunday morning? Like not even a maintenance. Not a patch. Not an expansion or a new DLC. Just some random moment in a random day. Why?
Seems fishy. Or is that just me?
This problem was going on last night too. You couldn’t log on and it said you had no valid license. That doesn’t really seem like a DDOS to me. So are they unrelated? Or maybe very related.

Login servers are one of the most common targets of DDOS attacks actually because by definition theyre outward facing

If they’re in another country they truly aren’t risking much. The US legal system has little to no power in other countries. But, people risk way more when they comit murder, but still do it.
Why on a Sunday? Sundays would be the best day for the biggest impact. Less people work sundays than they do Saturdays or during the week.

Don’t focus too much on that part of my question. Why a Monday? Why a Tuesday? Why a Wednesday where nothing important is happening? That’s what I don’t understand about this. DDOSing is no small thing. It’s not phishing for passwords or attempting a log in. You’re shutting down an entire game or at most, an entire corporation’s roster of games. For what? To poop up someones Sunday morning?
It doesn’t add up, is my point. A few people are saying Blizz is just having some kind of internal problems on their own end and they’re using a DDOS to play victim and seem like it’s not their fault. I was kind of insinuating that with my post. I guess no one knows, but the idea of a random DDOS, with especially how often it seems to happen, just doesn’t make any sense to me.
DDoS attacks are very common on online gaming services, why doubt what they say? It’s clearly a DDoS attack, once Blizz is able to mitigate it and put proper security in place it shouldn’t be a problem in the future.
I don’t know that you could call it random. People are getting increasingly frustrated with Blizzard’s design decisions and “balance” decisions. If this is an actual DDoS attack, which is not outside the realm of possibility, then someone was obviously mad enough about some of (or all of) the nerfs and decided to risk jail time to go after Blizzard with a DDoS attack.
A bit archaic and childish, mind you. But it still happens.
I love the fact that the game works better during a ddos attack than at any point since it came out.

DDOS attacks are super common and also often have no real logic… its just “hackers” being hackers…
But also… IT people blaming problems they created on virus/DDOS attacks is super common lol. So who’s to say. Although Im sure a DDOS attack is reported to the authorities so its probably harder to fake.

It’s probably one of the lamest and most accessible disruption methods for any pacifier sucking newborn hacker that I have ever seen. I’ve seen guides on how to DDOS on YouTube, for God’s sake. You don’t even need some kind of high profile client to do this. You can do it from any PC. Any idiot can do it.

Cause then it’s like, wow, how stupid is this “1337 hacker” then? The sheer logical fallacy of doing something like this, just to see if it works, without realizing the legal ramifications makes me angry to the point of hostility.
I just woke up an hour ago and wanted to play some D4 before my friend gets off work. If the goal was annoyance, then this guy won the gold medal. 
It started last night.

I mean, when I was initially involved with it I was a literal kid so yea… you dont understand the ramifications (which were smaller back then also) and you just want to see if you can. I imagine its largely the same mentality, some people just never grow out of it.
